Who would you like to see host the Oscars?

I think Conan O'Brien would be perfect. Mike Myers perhaps too.

Deftones 03-25-02 11:24 PM

Nathan Lane did a damn good job w/ his little schtik last night. he might be a good host. As much as I love Conan O'Brien, he's all wrong. His monologues aren't very good on the show. he's not a stand up type guy. He's more of a sketch and improv type comedian.

DVDsucker 03-25-02 11:36 PM

Tom Servo & Crow T. Robot

or

Dennis Miller

Geofferson 03-25-02 11:37 PM

Conan would be a great choice. I never thought of him.

spainlinx0 03-26-02 12:09 AM

They should have a contest where a lucky movie fan gets to host the Oscars. No actors, just a regular guy off the street. I mean at least then if he sucks, you won't be surprised. And don't give him teleprompter lines, make him make up his own material. Now that's a train wreck I would like to watch.
If it were me I would get just nice and sloshed, and then just rag on all the fake celebrities. It would be like MST3K meets the Oscars.
Sweeeeeeeeeeet.

pantala 03-26-02 12:34 AM

Robin Williams.

ClarkKentKY 03-26-02 12:42 AM

Mike Meyers

Scheherazade 03-26-02 01:05 AM

WhattheFFF 03-26-02 01:12 AM

Adam Corolla & Jimmy Kimmel & I won't watch until they host

Blake 03-26-02 01:22 AM

Anyone but Whoopi...absolutely un-funny last night.

drexel 03-26-02 01:27 AM

no moee whoopi, How does hse get that job??? As much as I'd love to see jimmy the sports guy and Corrola from KROQ host it, it aint never going to happen. I thought steve martin was awsome. I like conan but like John Stewar better.

What the....

Struz 03-26-02 08:24 AM

Anyone but Whoopi.

Someone funny like:

Billy Crystal
Ray Romano
Nathan Lane

Natedogg 03-26-02 09:54 AM

I like some of the above, but for a unique experience I would like to see Jim Carrey... All of his appearances on the Mtv movie awards have been memorable for me.

Meatpants 03-26-02 09:57 AM

Eddie Murphy

Eternia 03-26-02 10:38 AM

Kermit the Frog or Sir Didymus with Ambrosius

maxfisher 03-26-02 10:45 AM

I've got to say Owen Wilson & Ben Stiller. The only 3 minutes of the oscars I thought was really funny this year.

Art Vandelay 03-26-02 10:47 AM

Chris Rock or Ben Stiller...they need to get some young blood out there, as it is there are already a lot of older people nominated for artsy films not seen by the general public. If they were to have a young, funny comedian I think that they would draw more people from younger demographics, not to mention people might actually laugh, unlike Whoopi's display. Just my .02.

Ben Stiller is best in short bursts of roughly equivalent length. My concern would be that over the course of 48 hours (or the projected length of next years Oscar ceremony), he would wear out his welcome faster than a mouse at a wedding banquet.

The Oscar ceremony requires a personality that can stitch all of the weirdly bizarro happenings together, without getting in the way of the "Grandeur that is Oscar" (sarcasm). With that in mind, the perfect host by my reckoning would be....Billy Crystal. I'm not a huge Billy fan, but his schtick works well for the Oscars. He's unobtrusive and yet very much a part of the proceedings. He seems to understand the absurdity of some of what goes on there. and manages to convey this without being condescending.

Billy Crystal needs to face the music and own up to the fact that he was put on this earth to shepard the world through the "Annual Gigantically Huge Bloat Fest of Self-Congratulatory Chest Thumping, otherwise known as the Academy Award Ceremony".

Triumph the Insult Comic Dog or The D - Jables and Kage

madcougar 03-26-02 11:49 AM

I've enjoyed the times Steve Martin has hosted.

The Lusty Nun 03-26-02 12:15 PM

I think Denis Leary would be good, or Nathan Lane

Why have a host at all? Have an opening number/montage, then have the President of the Academy come out, welcome everyone, make a few perfunctory statements, and then introduce the first presenters. Following presenters could be announced by the announcer.

And get rid of Circ de freakin soliel.

Robert 03-26-02 05:11 PM

Nathan Lane

adamblast 03-26-02 05:19 PM

I think it should be co-hosted by Barbra Streisand and Alec Baldwin...

And maybe Rosie can sing the nominated songs...

Lifetime achievement award: Jane Fonda...

:D

mllefoo 03-26-02 06:56 PM

Off the top of my head:

Denis Leary
Nathan Lane
Greg Proops
Ms. Swan (oh come on, you KNOW that would annoy people less than Whoopie :D ) - (and the oscar..yes yes no yes, he looka like-a man...ooh look, he naked. tsk tsk, uh uh uhhh, you so bad - I know, you confuse Ms. Swan, you go now)
Mary Ellen Hooper, a lesser known but VERY funny comedienne.

monkeyboy 03-26-02 06:59 PM

i'd like to see steve martin do more. whoopi and crystal's schtick gets old. whoopi laughs way too much at her own jokes. nathan layne would annoy me to, over 3 or 4 hours of him would be too much. ben stiller would be great. i bet he'll get a shot at some point.

DrRingDing 03-27-02 02:31 AM

i like the call for the remaining members of Monty Python... that would just be too cool! (or, at least, have them present one award... :)

and, if only he was still able, Richard Pryor would be awesome. of course, they wouldn't be able to broadcast it... :D

realistically speaking, they should give Steve Martin another chance.

DrRingDing 03-27-02 02:55 AM

sorry, i retract my last post..

i'm watching conan right now, and i must say...

TOM GREEN would make the greatest oscar host EVER!

*please note, that was not serious. at. all.

I'd love a tape of that night. I know, I always hear it was horrible, but I still just have to see it!

Oh yeah, and Adam Carolla / Jimmy Kimmel would be so kick a$$!

tofu 04-01-02 12:45 PM

Forget Chris Rock, I want to see The Rock do some hosting :D

grunter 04-01-02 01:13 PM
