Look, I like Halle Berry, but I'm a little tired of her going around saying "this one's for the sistas" or that she opened the door for other black actresses. Halle *is* only 1/2 black. Let's give credit where credit is due. And I wonder how it makes her mom feel to hear her excluding half of her blood?

In the Barbara Walters special, Halle said her mom raised her to accept that she was black, so she could be better prepared for how people see her.
My 2 cents: I thought Halle deserved her oscar for her performance, but she was way too emotional and unperpared to give an acceptance speech. Not the first time this kind of thing happened.

Her mom is white, so Halle isn't a full African American, she's only half black.

I still think it's funny that Halle Berry forgot to thank Billy Bob Thornton in her "acceptance" speech. How could you forget the guy dry-humping your @$$ in the role of your life?

Oh ok... I didn't realize you were a moderator.

I guess you feel it's ok to talk about Uma's boobs and J-Lo's hair but not that Halle Berry's mother is white.

I'm wondering if that is some sort of record.

Hey, there is always room for Uma's boobs in ANY conversation! Well, maybe not *that* much room

A slight correction: the show was scheduled to run for 3 hours 30 minutes, and went 53 minutes over (4'23").

I also agree with the earlier post about Stiller and Wilson's sketch being the best one of the night.
As far as Halle Berry and the end of the awards, I wouldn't know because once it struck midnight I gave up and went to bed.

Got a question for y'all.
There was a point late in the show when Whoopi, making a reference to the hallucinations in A Beautiful Mind, said she was having a hallucination of her own. Then a guy walked out next to her dressed in a tux and hat.
Was that Silas from Survivor Africa or was that just my hallucination?

I'd like to pat myself on the back for noticing this:
One of the guys who won for Best Animated Short (The Accountant) plays Shane on FX's new series The Shield.

For what it's worth, I'm positive that it was Silas in the background.
As for Halle's speech, I think that almost all Hollywood stars are shallow and self-involved. It's perfecctly natural, and completely predictable, that she'd overplay her own "significance..." Whether it's being black or gay--or having dislexia, or a dead parent--these pampered pooches are always convinced that their particular "truimph" means so much more......
Of course, when it's race that's getting overplayed, then the boards go wild... The gleeful bashing of Babs and Rosie is nothing compared to a black actor accused of "playing the race card..." Then this place turns into Rush Limbaugh Heaven...

I was glad for Berry's very deserved win, but it is a shame her win is attributed as a “black win” not a mulatto win. Although she is not completely to blame, because she was raised by her white mother to think of herself only as black.... Ultimately, I think it is an antiquated line of thought that if you are mixed and have more distinctly black features that you should consider yourself black. Mulattos are a race in and of themselves, and it is a shame not to proudly celebrate that and its wonderful significance. Instead we just to write it off and destroy it with segregated archaic reasoning.
