Survivor 3/20
The twist just happened
They swapped members randomly. Maraamu is still 5 members but 4 ladies + Pappy. |
lol, Rob is too hillarious. "John is strong and all that but he cooks and cleans around the fire... I won't be sleeping next to him" :-)
|
Looks like the lazy people have been split up, and will be picked off.
Good. |
Yes, but God is still good. Glad we cleared that up.

"I think it goes the other way ..." Oh, man, they are so gone ... |
Lol. Maraamu never had a chance in the challenge. The looks on Neleh and Pappy's faces were priceless! They had no idea what's going on.
Also, way to go Vee. She's gonna stay in the game way longer after all original Maraamu are gone. Only Gina may stay longer, but she gets on my nerves: "Sarah wasn't helping with the food situation". There's no "situation" girl, relax. You got the lucky break anyway. |
Oh, of course:
Buh-bye Sarah |

If ALL of us saw it coming...and every site devoted to Survivor saw it coming, why would Probst even bother telling the group the swap was planned before they even got to the island. What a crock of #$@%. As for Sean and Rob, I find it amusing they they continually treat this as an island vacation. Did any of the past winners get there by laying around, bitching about working and do nothing but degrade their teammates? |
Is it just me or does this seem like hte easiest to survive from all hte seasons?? They're not even struggling.

Spoiler tags out the wazoo...
Just a reminder...
1. If the event was already aired as part of the main show, please don't put spoiler tags on it. Makes the page easier to read. 2. Previews show events that haven't "happened" yet... if it's in a preview and that episode hasn't aired yet, please put spoiler tags on it. Thanks! :) |
Static, I assumed people put on the spoiler tags because it hasn't aired on the west coast yet. Of course, they should have their head examined if they're clicking this thread and don't want it spoiled...

Damn, I thought this was one of the funniest episodes of Survivor yet! Rob cracks me up. Don't know how he'll play the "Let Sean really stick his stupid neck" card, but Sean gave him a gift when he went off on Gabe. I'm surprised that Rob thought John was the gay one when I thought it'd be Gabe (I have no idea if any of them are). Rob's assessment of each of the Rotu was some of the funniest commentary. I hope he can stick around just for that alone. Rob says what many of the audience thinks.
If I were one of Sean's students, I'd be ashamed. He's just pathetic, keeps playing the race card over and over agaon. I think Kathy may be right in thinking Rotu might throw an immunity challenge, but it'll be the last one before the merge (if possible). Rotu don't know that Kathy and Gina have a slight tighter bond, but I fear Gina would still get the boot if Maraamu loses again next week (but maybe Gina could swing Neleh and Paschal to her side and get Kathy booted off. If somehow Rotu loses the Immunity challenge, Sean is going next. Bank on it. Why does Jeff Probst pronounce Maraamu: "mata-ahmoo"? No one else in that tribe does, they go with: "mara-ahmoo" for the most part (though Gina's accent kind of mangles it. It's a darn shame that somehow 4 of the Maraamu didn't make it on the new Rotu tribe (for an even 4-4 split). Now that would have seriously shaken up the complexion of the game had Rotu lost the immunity challenge, but as chance would have it, old Maraamu is outnumbered in either of the tribes. This show won't be interesting until we get to cannibalizing the Rotu tribe 4 weeks from now. |
Why does it seem that EVERY African-American on reality TV is a major jackass? If I was an African-American, it would piss me off.

Originally posted by madcougar Why does it seem that EVERY African-American on reality TV is a major jackass? If I was an African-American, it would piss me off. Think of it this way. Let's reverse it. Think Survivor 5. Thirteen out of the sixteen survivors are blacks. The last three are white. One of them is a character like Sarah. With so little diversity on the show regarding race and personlities, you are more inclined to think white people are self centered and lazy asses. This is the same mind set when someone in this thread said, "I'm tired of the militant black person on these reality tv shows..." It's all in what they are showing you, or lack thereof. |

Originally posted by PacMan2006 Why are there always ONLY two "token black people" on each Survivor to begin with out of sixteen survivors? Is Mark Burnett worried America won't respond positively if, say, six or seven out of sixteen survivors were either Black, Hispanic, or Asian? Some may say, "hell, it doesn't matter..." When looking at the demographics who watch Survivor, I would be willing to bet that millions more whites watch it than blacks. Granted you may say that if there were more blacks on the show, more blacks would watch it...but even then, their numbers would not touch the amount of whites who watch (when it is mainly a cast of whites). It seems that the only way to make black people happy is to make them a majority on a show even if that is not the case in real life. Also, it would air on UPN & then no one would watch it. ;) |
I really hate this switching tribe members crap.
A tribe like Rotu works really hard and blends together so well just to get split up. In this case it shouldn't matter too much because they have the majority of both tribes and can vote off the Moron members. The Morons were doomed either way. If the tribes would have merged the would have had less mambers anyway and would have been picked off. The teams are so unfair physically now with 3 women and an old guy on one team. What are they going to win ? Maybe sewing will be next since they had weaving already. Sean, Rob and Sarah are complete idiots. They are so lazy. I'm so sick of Sean and his black speeches. I'm tired of him saying "'hood", "harlem", "slavery" & "chill" . Please let him get voted off next ! V is lazy too but at least she doesn't have a big mouth like Sean. I thought that Rotu was going to loose the immunity challenge on purpose so they could get rid of one of the knuckleheads. |

Personally, I don't think they should have switched the people. Last season, switching made a major difference in the game. But this time, I don't think the switch does anything in the long run. I mean, if things were left "as-is," Maraamu would be gone eventually anyway.

Yeah, that was a bit agressive of me, sorry. It was meant to skirt the edge, and show some anger -- but not to imply that you were necessarily any of those things yourself.
But Rob is truly apalling. As is anyone who would cheer him on, thinking his comments are harmlessly funny. They may be funny, but they are anything *BUT* harmless. |

But seriously, with all those racist slavedrivers on the island, can you blame him? :D das |
I think the current Rotu tribe will make it to the merge because I can't see them losing the next 2 immunity challenges.
Now here's the interesting thing: What if Rob or Sean can actaully run the table a la Colby? You just never know... |
Look at it this way...if they had all non-homophobic, non-racist, all-100% PC people on Survivor, who would watch? Like them or not, these are people who draw viewers.
|
Anyone know if the challenges are supposedly all mapped out, written in stone before the game begins? Or does Burnett & Company have the leeway to choose their challenges "on the fly," based on the current state of the game?
I ask because, seemingly obviously, Maraamu has zero chance of winning any physical challenges now, unless Rotu lets them win, which might be a good strategy at this point... It would be an odd (and maybe awkward?) state of affairs for a single team to have won every challenge throughout the whole show... Talk about lack of suspense... Red Dog: Fair enough; you're probably right on that point... |
Sean's one of the most outwardly closed minded persons ever to be on TV. Can you imagine him meeting Archie Bunker (if possible)?
At least Rob is provoking the audience with his comments. Would we stick around watching the love fest between Paschal and Neleh all hour long singing "Kumbaya"? This switch out produced exactly what Mark Burnett wanted, a shake-up in the Rotu tribe, and it worked beautifully, and we, the viewers, are locked in watching the weekly psychological trainwrecks like clock-work. I would suggest that if you find these contestants despicable, you can always change the channel. These shows need villains. The love shack that was the original Rotu tribe was bordering on watching ants on the nature channel. |
The change sort of shaked things up, but not really in the bigger picture.
Can't win: Sean - Lazy Rob - Lazy Gina - By association with the rest of her horrible original tribe Vecepia- By association with the rest of her horrible original tribe Kathy - Not liked at times Sarah - Voted off, but was lazy and wouldn't have won anyways I think thats the exact same as if they hadn't switched. If you buy the "less airtime early on means lots of air time towards the end" theory, the contenders are (and were before the switch also) Gabe, John, Robert (not Rob), Tammy and Zoe. |

Originally posted by mrglass There was an article in The Washington Post that discussed this issue. It's because the producers of these shows seek out Black people who are going to stand out and contrast (re: conflict) with the rest of the group. As a Black person, I'm bothered by it and I cringe whenever I see these so-called reality shows. I think all the people are chosen for the conflict potential. I hope not much of America is like any of them. |
Some comments:
- the preview showed that Rotu is thinking of dropping the challenge. John was questioning Gabriel on that. - so far I consider Rob to be stupid, like most of the people here seem to do. However, noone seems to remember Will from Big Brother 2. He looked just as stupid until halfway through the show when he became the favourite to most viewers (although still an underdog) and he manipulated his way to win it all. I sure hope Rob is able to pull something like this. The difference is that Will's tactics of dropping challenges will quite likely not work for Rob, because of the much tighter bonds that are within the original Rotu tribe. - Sean is lazy. Rob is laid back (could be synonim to lazy). Vee is not lazy but she doesn't like to work too much either. But I agree with all of them that the other Rotus are workoholics. I totally agree with whoever said that under the conditions that they have there, I would work all morning, but then relax in the afternoon, at least for a while. Do some more work to prepare dinner and then prepare the fire for the night, and relax some more. If you don't manage to do that, it means you're not able to focus and manage your time properly, which a lot of people suffer from. I like Gabriel and he's my favourite. I like Neleh, but she doesn't seem too smart so she has no chance. Tammy looks strong, but I don't care too much about her. I don't care too much about any of the others. The only one that is really interesting so far is Rob and I sure hope he'll stick around more. John and Robert didn't make an interesting comment the whole show so far (except for John getting pissed at Kathy at some points). |
I thought it was Kathy getting pissed at John....Ba-Dum-Bump! :)

You know, I think Sean's whole slavery comments were pretty tasteless and insulting to the memory of the slaves.
Yeah, your ancestors slaved around all day, but not for their own survival, and not for a chance to win a milion dollars and definitely not for 39 days only. Can you imagine the stink if someone on this show compared their "plight" to say Jews in a concentration camp? It would be tasteless. I don't see why Sean thinks it ok to belittle the suffering of the slaves. Maybe he ought to watch Roots, it would maybe put things in perspective for him. |
