NNTN (Not Necessarily the News)
Anyone else a fan of this show that was on HBO in the mid 80's. There was a second incarnation a few years later, but it wasn't as good. This show had some of the best political humor I have ever seen. Don't forget the Sniglets. I sent an email to HBO some time back asking about a DVD. Of course no response. I remember seeing a VHS tape with the best of a while ago. I have a nice colletion of VHS but would love to have the complete set on DVD.

that was on HBO right? I vaguely remember it I was but a wee lad without cable or a TV.
I remember it being funny was Dave Thomas on it and maybe Rich Hall? thanks for jarring some 80s memories loose.

I had been looking for those Sniglets books for a few years but they were all OOP. I finally picked them up a half.com for a few bucks each. I believe there were three books in total.
This series was on HBO. It was based off of a BBC show (I forgot the name).

I liked "igni-second" - the second you realize your keys are still in the ignition as the door closes and locks.
One of my favorite NNTNs moments:
Showing real footage of the Pope exiting a plane, waving to eveyrone, getting on his knees to kiss the ground, then cut to a shot of the Pope's hand picking up a ratty, wet, thrown away cigar. He inspects it, then sticks it up his sleeve.
It was seamless.
I thought I was going to bust a bearing on that one.

Loved that show. I'd love to see them bring it back too.
Speaking of, how sad to see Stuart Pankin doing infomercials for shoe inserts. What happened? I thought he stood out on that show as a talent.

Oh... my... GOD!
I loved Not Necessarily The News.
Each episode was an absolute, guaranteed gutBuster.
Does anyone remember Stuart Pankin's masterful turn as Bob Charles, the main anchorman, or as Mad Dog Lamont, congressional candidate?
Absolute comedic gold.
I would pay extreme amounts of money for season box sets.
I would sell my kidneys.
I would sell my sister.
I would eat at ARBY's!!... just to get my hands on these episodes.
*sigh*

here in Chicago, Pankin does the ATA (an airline) commercials. they're not that funny at all.
my favorite sniglet is: esso-asso which in laymen's terms is the driver who cuts through a corner gas station to avoid the light.

Just a quick note about Sniglet books...
I have four of them, and am aware of at least one other one. So for anyone searching for them, be aware there at least five out there.
