The one with Dale E. Jr. was hilarious. I guess I expected something different based on his father, but he was just a white-trash POS.

Jason Williams could be the 1st MTV cribber to go broke.
He's not on NBC no more, and his NBA contract has a morals clause which means if found guilty he stops getting payments on his contract. All he'll have is an NBA pension which isn't enough to keep that estate he lives on.

I hope MTV does a follow up on his new crib. The only crib on MTV that features a toilet and bed in the same room. ;)

without Cribs, we wouldn't have ever gotten The Osbournes...

True, but Cribs is especially obnoxious camera wise ... often to the point you can't even get a good look at stuff. Still love the show, though. Great guide in how to lease everything you own, because the money will be gone in six months.

I can't speak for everyone, but I don't get jealous at all. If I had all that money, I would take care of people that needed it. Of course, I'd pay off my house and car and bills and stuff, but I wouldn't go buy a million dollar house or anything. I'd take care of people that couldn't afford it,damnit. It pisses me off when I hear that Bill Gates is supporting some countries in Africa, paying them some ridiculous number like $30 billion dollars. I get pissed off when these rappers buy $5 million dollar houses while the people that were there for them get broke and take my tax money in welfare. Just pisses me off that the spread of money is so bad in this country.

And the person that says, I don't give now, why would I give them (brb, getting the quote)

It's their money, let them buy whatever the hell they want, because I know damn well I would be doing the exact same thing. They earned their money, now let them enjoy it how they want. If Tommy Lee wants a fuzzy yellow wall then let him have it. You people remind me of the lottery players when I used to work in a liquor store. Whenever the lottery got really huge you would hear them say "oh I hope only one person doesn't win it, it's too big for one person." But they ONLY played when it was that big. Sure, makes sense to me.
How much do I give to charity? I volunteer 20 hours a month, and work 2 full time jobs, and take care of my children. Did they earn it, did they earn anything? The customer makes them rich, not them. They earned nothing, everything was giving to them. In the fall, I coach soccer, in the summer, I give swimming lessons at the Y. The point is, Tommy Lee could do exactly what he has done so far in life musically and be dirt poor if he had no fans.

If I ever get rich, people will know about it, because I'll be living in the same house, broke, working, and taking care of the community.

But WHY is Tommy Lee rich? Because fans like his music. He didn't crap on a record and people bought it out of pity. Did he stumble upon a bag of money on the sidewalk? Did Bill Gates come up to him and say "We need more rich people, so I'm giving you some of my spare cash." No he worked on his music and people bought it because of that. I consider that EARNING his money. So you would spend more on other people, good for you. Everyone doesn't have to be like you though. And yes Tommy Lee could be dirt poor, but he's not. And if I were him I wouldn't stop spending my money because in some alternate reality I "might not have it." No, I'm going to take advantage of the fact that I have it now. Whether that involves giving to charity or not is my concern.

Eternia 03-13-02 07:20 AM

I remember one episode where one of the people had a picture of his old shack of a house he lived in as a boy or something in his living room to always remind him and keep him grounded.

That was Anfernee Hardaway, he said that house in the picture would be able to fit in his living room now.

BDB 03-13-02 03:07 PM

It is a good show, and there are so many people that do it I often wonder why?

I assume they get paid, but I would not allow cameras into my house. but maybe it's the record companies who are pressing the folks into doing it.

And then its a case of being bigger & better than the ones who have gone before.

The one thing I do note though is that most of the 3000 and 4000 sq ft houses are all in the carolinas or georgia etc. Where I imagine those size of house come for ~400-500K, which is the median property price in SF.

Just depends on where you want to live.

Christo 03-13-02 04:02 PM

Most of these guys annoy me also, but it's nothing new. There's even a term for it, nouveau riche.

What I don't get is how these guys who just came on the scene have all this money. A musician doesn't make squat off his/her first release, that all goes to the label. The production companies must own all this stuff.

One part of the extravegance I do have sympathy for is that the bigger stars are somewhat forced to build these castles. They can't go out in public anymore and are forced into secured seclusion.

Shonn 03-13-02 04:57 PM

Anyone see the episode with POD? They still live in the same neighborhood that they grew up in. One of the houses did have a pretty big dvd collection though.

btw-if you didn't know Master P is Lil Romeo's dad, that is how he can have pretty much whatever he wants

MJKTool 03-13-02 05:01 PM

I love the show. These guys can spend their money how ever the hell they want to. The only show that kind of annoyed me was the Lil Romeo (is that his name?) episode.....can we say spoiled as hella f***!!

kornhead 03-13-02 10:01 PM

there was as episode with I think Redman that was funny as hell. He lived in a little house in the "ghetto". the doorbell was just two wires you had to rub together to get it to work, the screen door has hanging off. the house was a mess and his cousin was passed out on the living room floor. LOL

 Thats my favorite episode so far!

Saw Keyshawn Johnson tonight. He has a fairly simple house(everyting's relative), nothing too fancy, even a cheap-lookin' pool table. He did show us his copy of Scarface(ugh).

PaperStreetSoapCo 03-14-02 01:34 AM

Master P really annoyed the hell out of me. I don't know why anyone would want 7 foot tall pictures of himself lining a *****ing hallway. Sure, he's got the money, but c'mon! That was just frickin ridiculous!

I always think of Hammer. He was rolling in money and went bankrupt before he could finish that stupid mansion he was decorating. Some of these guys go way overboard and as quick as people come and go in the music industry you would think they might be a little more practical. If you are an established star I can understand the excess, but some of the one hit wonders spend more money than Snoop and Dr Dre. I just doubt they will have their pleasure domes for long.
True, Hammer was excessive, but a lot of his downfall had to do with his generosity. He hired many, many of his down-on-their-luck friends, family, etc. to be part of his entourage. And as soon as the money dried up, they where nowhere to be seen. He is one of the few rappers I actually have a great deal of respect for.

I thought that too. Not to say it wasn't nice, but some of it looked quite "restrained" even as compared to other football players they've shown. I'd still take it without a complaint though! :)

BTW, when he pulled out that copy of Scarface I immediately though of this thread!

spainlinx0 03-15-02 12:35 AM

Well I know you all think rappers and sports stars are the only Scarface fans, but just to let you know even the guy from Blink 182 whipped out his copy of Scarface. I guess it's just a coke thing.

Lil' Penny 03-15-02 12:48 AM

Cheese anyone??? They don't tell you what you should spend your money on. Do you give back? I bet there are a lot of people out there that think that buying DVD's is stupid. Be pissed at the people like Lars because you downloaded one of his songs off the internet. Doesn't he have enough money? Be pissed at the record lables for not selling the CD's for less. It cost less to print a CD then it does make a tape, but CD's still cost more. Be mad at that and quit PH'in. :)

I'm surprised this show ever got made. You'd think this would be the industry's (sports, music, movies, whatever) dirty little secret. You wouldn't think they would ever want us to know that these guys live like this. Especially musicians. Everyone knows sports figures are rich but how often do you hear musicians b!tch about the record companies taking so much of their money? If the record companies take so much of their money and they can still live like that then there's way too much money being made! I agree with the person earlier in this thread, it's not like I don't buy anything anymore, but because of Cribs I'm a lot more selective about what I do buy. I only buy things I really want.

Personally, I would think just the opposite. I tend to think that the over the top self-indulgence is part of the characterization that the companies want to portray with rappers. It's almost a rule that rappers must partake in a lifestyle that's lavish to the point of ridiculousness. From the fans perspective, they've gotta have the bling.
