Dateline NBC: A Touch Of Evil

Did anybody (becides myself) see this tonite? For the first time in a long time, they had something on there that kept me watching for the whole two hours. Have they made this story into a TV movie yet? It sounds like it would be too good for Lifetime.
PS: From the first time I saw him, I thought that the stepfather did it!

My girlfriend and I sat down to watch some stuff I taped last night and this started as I was rewinding the tape. It immediately drew us in and we ended up watching the whole two hours. If I saw this stuff in a movie I would say it had a ridiculous plot.

The girl's mother/stepfather were natural targets of suspicion for me as well until I heard about the string of similar disappearances in the region. Based on this show, I have no idea who is really responsible for that crime but I would be surprised if her disappearance wasn't connected to the other ones.

And what about that special prosecution "team"?

We watched most of it. We were watching something else and got bored with it and started flipping around until we stopped on Dateline about a half hour into the show. As you said, the story was pretty interesting and really left you wondering who might have been involved and what might have happened. It's too bad for the family (and to a degree the town) that they don't have any real closure... and, from the looks of it, they probably never will.

I watched it. It was fairly interesting, though I also have suspicions that the stepfather did it. Why didn't the mother call the police? I mean, if I turned up missing under strange circumstances my mother wouldn't have waited two minutes to call the police. Something's not right there.

I wish they had gone into more detail about the car on the security camera. It looked a lot like a Mustang GT to me, and I just wonder if anyone she knew drove a smallish two door coupe. What time did it happen? What does the guy on the camera look like? Are there any better shots of the car? This seems to be the most significant clue, and yet, they just gloss over it like it's nothing.

There might be a connection with a serial killer, I grew up near that area, and I know that women do tend to disappear from there every so often, but I really think there's a simpler solution in this case.

What amazed me the most was the way the whole town bought into the Satan histeria. The minute I heard one of the boys claim there was an elevator shaped like a penis, I knew they were lying. These people live in a house that's barely four walls and a roof, and they managed to build an elevator? One shaped like a penis? How do you make an elevator look like a penis? There's no evidence and you say "well, these are master satanists, the lack of evidence proves they did it"? WTF? It was like the Salam witch trials. I really thought people in this day and age were better than that.

I wondered these same things. Things related to the car would have been the first things I wanted to investigate!
