Great television is NOT dead! (new show related)
Fans of Homicide, Hill Street Blues, and other great shows like that take note:
There is a new show about to premiere on FX this Tuesday night.
It is called THE SHIELD.
I just watched the pilot and thought it was outstanding. Here is a show with real characters, great writing, terrific directing and the best thing of all - no network or studio interference - meaning we have characters who are bad, actors who look real, not like models, and story lines that aren't all wrapped up with a bow by episode's end.
It was written by Shawn Ryan and the pilot was directed by Clark Johnson (Homicide).
Watch this show! And before anyone flames about the "style" being ripped off from Homicide or NYPD Blue know this: this show was shot on an incredibly low budget - done on DV with almost no silly above the line expenses (multiple exec producers, high priced actors, etc). It is done for nearly 60% LESS than the weekly budget for NYPD Blue.
The above is, of course, JMHO, but check it out and let me know what you think.

Brother,
The previews on this thing look freaking good. You need to get on this show like the Leafs need a new goalie, ASAP!

don't think I haven't been laying that ground work! This thing rocks, man. If it wasn't going to be on in a few days I'd send you the pilot.

I fully intend to watch this show (been looking forward to it since FX bombarded us with info on it six months ago), but FYI, there is great television on all the time. People just refuse to watch it.

Dang. I thought this was going to be about that new comedy/reality show from those geniuses at MTV: "The Osbournes", a daily look at the life of Ozzy and his spawn.

When I first saw the commercials for it back in October or November, I was pissed that we had to wait until March to see it. The wait is over and I'm really looking forward to the show!

Dude, and here I thought this was another Judging Amy thread!
Anyway, the premise and Clark Johnson's hand behind the director's chair was enough for me to put this one in the "Must CHeck Out" category.
Hopefully its doesn't suffer the date of EZ Streets and Big Apple.

I want to check this out as well. That's like 17 shows on the Tivo now. I never realized how much I could watch if I didn't worry about taping everything.
My favorite promo for The Shield was the "Memento" one that ran in reverse. Very stylish and very cool...

You HAVE to see this one to have insight into the later episodes.
