the most manipulative show on tv is?

My vote is:
I want to say that Flipped on MTV is the single most manipulative
P.C. crap I have ever seen.
It is so santimonous and heavy-handed way in trying to "educate" viewers towards a certain way of thinking.
Look, see what happens when we turn a stuck-up popular girl into a fat girl. She has to learn her lesson that overweight people are just like other people. Let's get her into a fat suit and have people make fun of her.
See what happens when we give a promiscious girl, STD ...
omigod, she has STDs. Now, she's learned her lesson and will enter a convent.
See what happens when we make the bully into the class nerd and have students rag on him.
See what happens when we convert people with behaviors we do not like i.e. gambling, sex, homophobia, ageism, sexism, etc.
I am not condoning these behaviors or beliefs but I am saying the way the show goes about try to presuade the viewer towards a certain way of thinking is so heavy-handed.
I am tired on this show. It's on all the time ...
Give me more of anything else.
-----
others shows which I don't watch are
7th Heaven
Smallville
Survivor

MTV's REAL WORLD

they keep shoving the whole GAY thing down our throats....It's like "ALRIGHT ALREADY! I GIVE!" Just do the show! No one gives a rip about what the resident gay guy is sucking on in his room......

With that said, I'll be glad when they finally do an ALL GAY REAL WORLD and get it out of their systems.

You want sanctimonious, heavy-handed moralism?

How about Seventh Heaven or Touched By An Angel?

I have to go with West Wing. I love the West Wing even though I disagree with most of the politics involved. Sorkin tries to get the other side of argument in but it is pretty liberal. He has to be careful about this.

It's not called The West Wing and Their Equally Valid Opponents. It's about a Democratic presidency, so naturally, everything is skewed through the views of Democratic characters. Frankly, I'm impressed that a show starring so many rabid liberals about a bunch of elected liberals can stay as balanced as it does.

I'm not criticizing it. I understand the way it has to be written. The thread was about most manipulative show. I suspect that a lot of people's only understanding of the workings of gov't & politics come from this show. That is why I think it is manipulative.

I agree that people learn about goverment from the show's presentation, but I guess I don't consider that manipulative. Semantics I guess. I interpret manipulative as trying to change something (an opinion, a situation) to your liking though somewhat indirect or subversive means. Typically, it holds a negative connotation, but it doesn't have to. I don't think that The West Wing tries to particularly change anyone's views from what they already believe or convince them that one particular way is right through subtle means. It just presents a couple of alternatives and sometimes runs with one of them and sometimes straddles the fence. I see your point; I think we just interpret the word differently.

I have to go with 7th Heaven. I used to watch this show faithfully from the beginning up until about January when I finally got sick of it. I am so tired of that family's holier (sp?) than thou act. THey have covered pretty much every PC cliche out there. Racism, pregnancy, alcoholism, drugs, cursing, gangs, the elderly, veterans, sexual harrasment, teen sex, even Rock N' Roll. And they seem to have the answers for everything. They can't just end an episode with a negative note. Maybe once in awhile it happens but they solve the problem by the next episode. What really bothers me is that they have never said what religion they are. But they have had people from other religions on the show, sometimes all in one episode. I think this sow has run it course and needs to end after this season.

Not sure if you're serious, but your response gave me a good laugh. With words like "heaven" and "angel" in their titles, I don't think you're going to get anything but preachy, sanctimonious crap.

I for one wonder how MTV finds people for their "reality" shows. They always find an angry African American, a homosexual, a homecoming princess, a jock, a rich guy, and a racist to live together hoping that will make for good viewing.

They already have an All-Gay Real World. It's called "Making the Band".

I would have to agree with you there, this season is all about the gay roommates and no one else

I totally agree...at the end of the show everything is wrapped up in a neat little package.

I think TV itself is most manipulative.

Every show is trying to get you to view.
Then there are the commercials....
Cable or Dish....
Lets not forget about HDTV....Big screen tv's and
awesome sound systems.....Did I mention Tivo.
Yeah I think it manipulates us all.

Now time to go watch some.

Yeah no kidding. For the guests that go on her show, they spend half the time kissing her butt. And God forbid if the guest has an opposing view on an issue that Rosie believes in. I will be so glad when she leaves the show later this year.
