The best thing designer Doug has done is steal the garden ball from a neighbor while the carpenter distracted the guy by asking where a bowling alley could be found.

Doug's rooms -- I like them. Not as well as Vern's, but I dig his designs. but a lot of what he does isn't particularly functional -- it's more about form.

The funniest thing about the show is that designers always start off asking the contestants "What do you want to do with this room?" and then completely ignore their ideas for the next 2 days.

One couple I remember specifically talked about "surround sound" and home entertainment, but no electronics of any kind were to be seen by the end. I think it was the couple stuck with dealing with Hilda's orthagonal design on the walls.

I agree!

My wife started watching TS and I eventually got hooked as well.

Changing Rooms is fine, but after watching an hour version, 30min is too short. "Nigel has decided to paint the room blue. Now he's done building the new children's playroom."

Paige Davis makes me want to claw my eyes out. All she does is whine and complain at everyone "What are you doing?! Why are you doing that?! You don't have much time! Look at me!! Look what I'm doing!!"

Frank is funny but nuts. All his rooms involve painted wood cut-out characters.
Doug, Hildy and Laurie are fine.
Vern is pretty good. His designs are tasteful but not boring.
Genevieve is pretty good too and...hubba hubba.

Oh, and the lady crying episode was just on last week or the week before. Classic episode.

What a ridiculous show.

I watch it every week.

I don't really watch it, but my wife has a Season Pass on the Tivo. That and "A Makeover Story."

I'm not sure I understand what about the homes could be that much different than U.S. The interior designs could easily translate. I live in an older home and my house looks a lot more similar to the ones on Changing Rooms than in a lot of the modern suburban houses on Trading Spaces.

The only thing unusual I've noticed on Changing Rooms is how often designers "discover" fireplaces that had been covered over and they end up restoring them. I wondered if that was a British trend awhile back to cover up your fireplace.

Boy, that Trading Spaces lady would have slit her wrists over something like that

Speaking of discovery, TS has a glut of "discovered" hardwood floors. Just like the britons and their fireplaces, apparently americans had a trend to throw carpet over hardwood floors. To each his own and everything, but I'd take a wood floor over carpet any day.

Totally agree with this. I find carpeting to be just a magnet for dirt. Hardwood floors are so much better and easier to keep clean.

This is my reason for watching the show:

A hot chick with power tools is so firken sexy!

I have missed this show since I moved a year ago and have been sans cable. I have finally talked my wife into signing up for DishNetwork, so I will be a TLC addict once again!

I too think Amy Wynn gives the hot. In a morbid attraction sort of way. Much more interesting to watch cut wood than that Ty guy.

My fiance and I got hooked on this show over Christmas when they did an all-day marathon of Trading Spaces.

My favorite designer is Doug (although the train bedroom was over the top) while hers is Vern. We both don't like Frank - there's only so much cutesy stencils you can look at in one room.

We've tried watching Changing Rooms on BBC America, but we don't like it as much. I like getting to know the familes even if some of the exchanges are "rehearsed" (In other words, they will do a second take of something if they didn't like how the first on turned out.)

Here's a possible spoiler: I have heard there is actually a second carpenter that they never show you who helps Amy or Ty. There is also a "sewing coordinator" (you can see the name in the credits) who does a majority of the sewing on the show.

I just absolutely looooooove this show! Much better flow than it's predecessor - Decorating Challenges. Anyone remember that show?

I like Vern the best. Frank is just too craftsy and country for me.

And I have seen the fireplace show. I liked the room but guess everyone got their taste. The couple's reactions were priceless. The wife balling her eyes out and left the room and the husband just stared and shoke his head saying, "There're a lot of work to be done!" or some crap like that.

Hildi is HOT! I like most of her designs.

Doug's alright, I guess.

I wondered about the candles too. Just about every how has them. Now who the heck lights up all them candles ... and in the kitchen at that! What a fire harzard! And can anyone tell me who the heck has all those pillows on their bed?!

The handy lady is definitely HOT but I think Ty is more creative.

I like Paige over Alex. She's a bit more spunky. Did anyone see her wedding story? I missed it.

As for the participants - HEY, THE SHOW SAYS SATISFACTION IS NOT GUARANTEED!

I wish they would show a show of all the most negative reactions. That would just be tooo funny!

A carpenter and sewing helper? Man, that would explain a lot. I never thought they could finish all those work with so few people.

We have always joked that Frank's "wife" must be named Steve.

My sister recently sent me this link. I guess his wife is real!

She is very attractive for her age and doesn't look like a beard.

If you go here there is a posting by a poster who claims to be the woman who hated her room and ran out of the room crying (link gotten via newsgroups).. Seems there are numerous people that help the homeowners out. Nice read about behind the scenes of the show, if it is at all true.

My wife and I love it, however we miss the old host Alex, the new one is good, we were just used to Alex I guess.

I don't know which I like more, when someone likes the room or someone HATES it! Kind of evil in a way...

Love this show also.

What's the deal with painting every furniture white?

Vern's rooms are the ones I like the most. I don't think I've ever seen one of his that I didn't like.

Vern is a good designer, but he is very "modern." We love it when he does a room for a real "rednecky" couple. They go from country kitchen to minimalist kitchen! The results are hilarious!

Funny thing, I have never watched this show, I have seen some of the bbc version, but on the way into work this AM on Alice 97.3 w sarah and vinnie, they had some of the people from the show, Paige I think was one of them.

They were just chatting back and forth

Ugh. I skimmed through some of the posts on that Trading Spaces forum and was appalled at the general consensus among them. Do you know what I mean? Go on the AICN boards and it's all about loving "Lord of the Rings," hating "Phantom Menace," and spoiling the latest "Buffy" episode. Here in the Other forum, it's all about Jules' and his minions or voting for twikoff. Over at that Trading Spaces forum, they all love Frank's country-crafty designs (*reeeetch*) and think Doug is the hottest piece of ass since David Hasselhoff. And nearly every person who posts has some cutesy graphics sig with pictures of the Little Mermaid, babies or insufferably cute kittens.

Remember that urge to immediately watch some Disney film after being disgusted with yourself for watching a 4 hour porno compilation tape? I have the exact opposite feeling right now. I feel like I ate 2 or 3 more bags of candy than I'll ever need and I must immerse myself in the fleshy adult funworld of my local AVS.

How do you get this velvet sad-eyed-clown funk off of you? Ick.

Oh My...I'm glad I found this. My wife and I love the show. Watch it every weekend when we can. If I had to choose a designer to do my home, it would be Vern. Go PAIGE!!!!

i love this show alot, gives viewers ideas, even if they half-ass do the work on the show. I know this sounds like a stretch, but my bestfriend's boyfriend is Paige's cousin. Maybe someday I can meet her at my best friend's wedding! one can only dream...anyone want a signed hammer?

Amen to both, something soooo sexy about these two. My wife and I watch the show, she's totaly hooked and these two make it all the more watchable. My wife is also addicted to TLC and HGTV in general.

I love this show too. I am a bit dissappointed that it is no longer hosted by Alex McLeod though. I always found her very sexy!
