ESPN's lousy Aussie Open tennis coverage
[rant]I know I am probably the only person who cares about this but I just needed to let off steam. Was watching a great, close match between Haas and Federer at the Aussie Open on ESPN2 up until a few minutes ago. So in the middle of the second set the announcer goes "We'll be leaving you at the end of this set for RPM2Night." I nearly pulled a McEnroe.
I mean it's midnight central time on a Sunday night. Why the hell would they leave live coverage for a highlight racing show when the ratings can't even be that high in the first place. How many people were begging for RPM2Night to come on at midnight and would have been pissed if they missed it? To me the preference should have been given to the live event. Period. They pulled the same thing the other night during another good match (Forget who it was at that time) and they went to NBA Tonight. I love basketball but I would rather see the live coverage than canned NBA highlights and talking heads trying to act witty.
My other complaint has to do with their tape delay. Sampras is playing Safin in what should be a great match this morning. It starts around 3 a.m. central time because of the time difference between the U.S. and Australia. They are showing it tape delay starting at noon today. Fine, but why not also show it live for those of us who are night owls and who would stay up to watch it live? They are instead showing a rerun of a hockey match from earlier Sunday. Why show a game they already showed than the live Aussie Open coverage? We're talking ESPN2 at midnight and 3 a.m. here. Somebody explain it to me......arrrggghhhh[/rant]
There, got that out of my system.....
