Well, on the plus side, we'll get to see the Tolkienites froth at the mouth. ;-)

So, the Lord of the Rings went home with nada????
NO! My favorite movie of the year. Oh well, bring on the Oscars. |

Biggest Disappointment of the night: David Lynch and Mulholland Drive getting shut out.
Harrison Ford's speech: Good. He's so anti-Hollywood that I was very impressed that he not only showed up, but talked for a minute or two. Beats the crap out of the Shirley MaClaine/Barbra Streisand 94,000 minute rambling fiasco from a couple of years ago. Surprises: Naomi Watts and that chick from Six Feet Under's voices. Who know they had accents? Makes their acting even more noteworthy. Missing: A drunken Elizabeth Taylor to hand out the Best Drama. "Thank God for HBO" |

My random thoughts:
- Yes, THANK GOD FOR HBO - Six Feet Under - Wow! I was intrigued enough to watch every minute of every episode (Thinking back, I believe this is the only time I've been able to do that for a season - except for the Sopranos DVDs)... I'm thrilled it beat out The West Wing, although I wouldn't have minded it losing to the Sopranos (though I haven't seen the third season yet) - The babes of the night: - the blonde with Crowe - the Globe girl - Audrey Tautou (must find out who she is) - Jessica Alba - Rachel Griffiths (j/k - what was up with that dress???) - Jennifer Connelly finally getting some respect (Hallelujah!)... though of course she should have won last year for Requiem, although I haven't seen A Beautiful Mind (or any of the pics nominated for best drama), all indications are that I'll love it - Jennifer Garner winning - huh?? I've only seen one episode of Alias, and I liked it, but this is not Awards worthy material! Should've gone to Edie. Period. - Rachel Griffiths winning - - Thank God for HBO! |

Uhh...the Globe Girl this year is Pat Benatar's daughter....she's 16 I think...if not, very close.
I saw Pat Benatar this summer and she had her daughter's "act" perform a few "songs". Extremely forgettable lip-synched pop candy. As for the show... ???Charlie Sheen??? Does anyone still watch Spin City? How did he beat out Tom Cavanagh (Ed) and Eric McCormack (Will and Grace) let alone Kelsey Grammer? |
My favorite part of the evening? Easily the fact that Lord of the Rings got shut out. Did it even win one significant award? Bodes well for the Oscars as i hope it gets shut out again.
Was very glad to see Moulin Rouge, A Beautiful Mind, Kidman, Crowe and Altman get recognized. While Gosford Park wasn't my favorite film of the year I did enjoy it and think it was the result of some amazing direction on Altman's part. Talk about Jackson all you want, but I doubt he could handle 30+ prominent characters like Altman did in Gosford and have it come out so good. I would have been happy with anybody but Jackson winning that award. I will swallow my pride and say that I have started to change my opinion on Mulholland Drive, which I trashed immediately after I saw it. While it's still not anywhere near a favorite of mine I could accept Lynch winning. Howard did a great job too. Anyone of the directors did a better job than Jackson did in what I would echo from previously in this thread was an overrated Lord of the Rings. So going into the Oscars looks like Moulin Rouge and A Beautiful Mind are the leaders. :) I wonder, I know the Globes ignored it and I have yet to seen it, but will Black Hawk Down get any play from the Oscars? I know it made a lot of top ten lists but I also know it has had a lot of controversy too. |

Sissy Spacek will be favored to win the best actress award. Crowe best actor. One of those to will fall victim to Oscar going against a favorite. Halle Barry and/or Denzel Washington could sneak in. Buscemi should get the best supporting actor Oscar for Ghost World, but he probably won't. |
They did show some Blade Runner shots. The one where Daryl Hannah had Harrison's head in between her legs. Wasn't that from there?

Originally posted by Eternia That song was so horrid. It hurt my ears when I was in the movie theater. I would have rather seen Moulin Rouge pick that one up. ps: due to some idiotic rule, the song from Moulin Rouge (Come What May) is ineligible for the Oscars. It was written -- but not used, for Romeo + Juliet, so they don't consider it an original song from this movie. How stupid is that? |

Decker: You do know that that is how Ridley simply is? He's like that at every award show. He's just incapable of publically displaying emotion. I suppose that's the way he was brought up.
|
I think he would have come off a whole lot better IF he were incapable of displaying emotions. He just seemed to be displaying inapropriate emotions on that night. It was really a hoot to watch.
|
Maybe Ridley was aping Russell Crowe. :)

Patman: Yeah I know! How come no one is griping about Russel? He's a talented actor, but my God, the man has a Starship Troopers size bug up his ass.
