I will be watching and enjoying them. Whoopi stumbled during her first hosting, but her second was pretty good. And she really is good on stage; she just flopped at that one Oscars. If anything's going to make me puke it will be the pretentious speeches, unprepared presenters, and interpretive dance.

Would you hate me if I said I watch them because I love to see all the pretty dresses?
And I like to watch the speeches of the big 5 (best supporting actor/actress, best actor/actress, best picture) at the very least. I'm easily moved to giddiness on others' behalf.

For the record, I don't hate Whoopi as an entertainer. I've enjoyed some of her movies. And her Broadway show was funny. But hosting the Oscars? She was not good. Was there no one else out there available. Hell, my vote would go to getting Ellen to host. Sure, she's a TV star. But she's damn funny and every award show she has hosted has been hilarious.

Too bad Kim Basinger is not nominated this year.
She is the last memorable wacked out actor to accept an award.
I may watch the 1st half hour if Jennifer Connelly gets
nominated for supporting actress. They always
show the supporting roles early on. Its a big if though.
Even if Billy was hosting. I could not sit thru 3 hours of
actors stumbling thru reading a tele-prompter. They're actors
of all things. Can't they at least remember there lines.

It would be nice if the Academy Honchos wouldn't stifle the host so much. Whoopie is actually a hella funny standup comic, but the Oscar show is so watered down and PC there is no way anyone could be funny hosting that debacle.
That said, if the Academy had ANY balls, it would ask Denis Leary to host.

There are only a few categories I'd be interested in seeing who the winner is, but other than that, most of these awards shows (particularly the Golden Globes) are quite unwatchable. I used to enjoy the Oscars with more gusto in the past, but it really has become too much of a popularity contest and also because the winners are chosen by people that don't really know too much on what they're voting for anyway.

I think Whoopi's great but I skip the Oscars. Long, boring, stuffy event. Clips of movies and actors picking more awards don't interest me in the least.

I just know if one more awards show host spoofs Bjork's Swan Dress I will hurl! I actually liked it when Bjork wore it (hated the black shoes but loved the dress and it was sooo Bjork!) The joke is over, move on.

Well, I'll be watching the awards.... all of it.
As a film-freak, I find myself torn, however, between whether I should or should not watch them. On the one hand, I know that the Academy Awards are, in large part, simply handed out on the basis of politiking among various studios, and I know that many of the jury do not even see all of the films they're supposed to be picking from. In that sense, the awards don't really mean anything.
On the other hand, it's the Academy Awards! The biggest event of the year for the film industry! And frankly, I like to watch them to root for films that I want to win, and I feel really good when that happens
Also, Academy Award nominations and trophies actually are important as far as publicity goes. If a film that a lot of people haven't heard of or seen wins an award, there's a good chance that these people will make an effort to see them, when they otherwise wouldn't.
So yeah, I'll be watching. I really don't care that much who's hosting, though I admit I wish it was Steve Martin again.

Yeah, whats up with Whoopi? Her career seemed washed up a long time ago. Name anything good she's done in the last 5 years. She's still living off the fame she got back in her Sister Act days.
Btw, if you see her, ask her where my damn flooz went!
