Best Televised Concert?
With CBS not having anything better to do than showing televised concerts to fill the gaps in their lacking programming schedule, I got to wondering what really good televised concerts there are.
At the present, the only one I can think of that was very well done was the Gloria Estefan: Evolution Tour Live from Miami that HBO did a few years back. Not only was it 2 hours long and included the lost artform of Gloria actually singing every single song instead of lipsynching them like some corporate monkey. It had damn_near every big song she's done (which is an assload for Gloria), a few little known Latin songs, a surprise visit from Jon Secada who wrote "When I See You Smile" and generally a great production.
While typing this I now recall the VH1 Meat Loaf: Live from the Beacon Theater thing they did back when "Bat Out of Hell II: Back into Hell" came out. It's been a long time, but I recall that being very well done too.
Hmm ... and I also saw a Randy Travis concert on one of those FREE DirecTV things that airs nonstop for a month. That was surprisingly good as well.
Well, that's 2 more than I could remember 15 minutes ago. Mostly when I think of these televised "concerts" the word "lame" springs to mind. Any others that people recall as being worthy of watching independent of being a cardcarrying member of the artist's fan club?
