Let's discuss The Pretender: Island of the Haunted
OK, I saw this TV movie last week and was surprised that a movie so advertised as revealing answers and tying up loose ends didn't reveal many answers and only provided more questions.
I also couldn't believe some of the leaps they made in this movie. I'm a die-hard Pretender lover, but this was just too "out there." Not based in "possible" reality like other shows. Especially some of the leaps. Jarod sees a bible and a picture of a bible and in a split second realizes it was mended to hide a letter inside. The letter is cryptic at best, but he immediately understands the meaning that there's a key inside a doll Miss Parker found after being led by a ghost child. He finds the scrolls by tying together clues (out of order, I might add). Then, suddenly, out of the blue, the blind lady is shot. All they hear is the gunshot and they know it is her who is dead. What?!?!
And what was up with the props? A 100-year-old doll looks like it was made last year. The key to the 100-year-old scrolls is like a Master Security key. C'mon people...
Am I off my rocker or did they just really miss it with this one?

I think there were problems with the movie, but not the ones you listed:
The Bible in the picture was frayed, while the one Jarod was holding was not. He realized it had been sewn up, so that's why he checked it. Also, there had to be a reason for it to be one of the few things locked away.
The letter said something like "she holds the key," and the little girl was holding the doll in the picture. Remember there were three things: the bag, the picture, and the doll. The doll was one thing, and was related to another, so it was obvious it was important. No great leap here.
Of course they thought it was the blind lady. They thought she was the only other person on the island, so if it turned out there was one other, it was doubtful they were shot by a BLIND person. So they knew she was the one shot.
The little "ghost" girl makes sense. She's not a ghost (I think), but rather Ms. Parker's "inner sense" thing she got from her mom.
I had problems with other stuff, like:
It annoyed me that Jarod didn't get to meet his mother.
The stupid "prophecy" crap. Why are there suddenly secret scrolls? Jarod is the "chosen one"? Yeah. Whatever.
It was obvious from the beginning where the scrolls were hidden.
It annoys me that the Centre is just a little crap thing compared to some organization run by Zulu warrior people. I prefer them as an immoral company, not an evil organization.
I'm sure other stuff annoyed me, but I can't remember it all right now. Overall I really liked the movie, though. I just sort of irks me that they took the series into such a weird direction.

I guess I should clarify. I just threw up on the page when writing before. I agree that the puzzles themselves weren't great leaps, but how fast they figured them out certainly were. I mean, they'd get a clue and three seconds later, Jarod had the answer. He's gifted, but c'mon. I thought most of them were deep enough to easily drag out over several shows.
But all in all, I completely agree with you about the scrolls and the prophecy. This show was founded on Jarod looking for his mother, as well as Miss Parker searching for answers in her life. They should just stick with those instead of introducing a whole new story line. Being the "chosen one" has been done one too many times.
