Buffy and the sopranos question?
Does anybody knows how many seasons are there for the TV series buffy the vampire slayer?
Does the seasons have continuity. I mean do I have to see the first season in order to see the second?
How about the Sopranos. I'm wondering the same questions I asked about Buffy.
Any info will be appreciated.

I think the answer is yes to both of your questions (don't know how many seasons there have been yet).
But I think you'll get a better response over in the TV Forum, so I'm moving your thread there.

Buffy is currently in its Sixth season.
Its not necessary to watch the earlier seasons to watch later ones; I think its pretty easy to catch on - as long as you watch any given season from its start.
The Sopranos has had 3 seasons.
Not sure about the continuity there...

While you can watch Buffy and be able to pick up some of the story if you start "in the middle," there are many many bits of foreshadowing, not to mention massive character-building and story-building and past references and inside jokes that you will miss out on if you don't watch from the beginning.
That being said, I started at the end of season 3, and loved the show, but I had no option to watch from the beginning. And now that I've seen all the episodes in order (thanks to FX) I got SO much more out of the later episodes than I did the first time around. So my advice is definitely to watch it, but if at all possible watch them in order from the beginning, as that is the "ideal" method for this fantastic show, imo.
FX is almost done showing all five seasons in order (minus 4 episodes UPN still has the repeat rights to) and with some luck they'll start over again and show them from the beginning in order for those who missed it this last time. If so, I'd recommend watching them that way.
But like I said, any Buffy is better than no Buffy!

I didn't start watching Buffy until near the end of season five last spring, and while it's not impossible, there is a wealth of information in the previous seasons that helps current viewing. I'm constantly running over to the computer during commercials to pull up episode guides and whatnot so my wife and I can figure out whats up.

Coming in in the middle of seasons would be like coming in in the middle of a book. If you can, watch it from the beginning. The characters evolve and change and grow through a lot. People come and people go so I would reccomend seeing it from the beginning. I had a friend that started watching last season and she was a bit confused but is a die hard fan now that she has scene the repeats on F/X.
Also check out an episode guide or two.
I found a new episode guide site and it tells you about each episode of Buffy and then gives little foreshadowing things at the bottom.
Here it is...

These are two of the finest shows on television and can therefore exist as individual episodes. But they are infintely more enjoyable seen one after another from the beginning. The first season of The Sopranos and the third season of Buffy are some of the most compelling years of television ever put together. While their success is not built on surprises and trickery, it would be a shame to learn things that spoil the incredible hours that came before them.
You have plenty of time, and I mean possibly 8 months to catch up on The Sopranos before the next season airs. Wait. Watch them in order. It's worth it. You should be able to track them down in some format (most likely on HBO itself) in that amount of time.
With Buffy, like the fair Princess said, FX is almost done showing them in order, and it's almost a guarantee they will do it again. We're midway through season 5 on FX, and at 2 eps a day, we're just over a week from finishing the run. WAIT. As for watching season 6 episodes on now, I would tape them and wait. The season is half over as it is. It would be a waste to rush into watching them now.
Seriously, you're dealing with two of the finest television shows ever created. You could watch them out of order, but with FX and HBO showing repeats like crazy, there's no point. Be patient, and wait it out. They're not going anywhere. You'll be glad you did.

OK, I just found out something that is not going to make people happy. According to both my TiVo guide and the FX schedule, next Thursday FX will show the 4th and 3rd last shows from season 5. But the last two episodes, The Weight of the World and The Gift will not be shown on Friday. Instead, they will start over with Season 1, episodes 1 & 2. On the 24th and 25th, there will be shows not in sequence and on the 26th they'll go back to Season 1, episodes 3 & 4.
UPN must be planning on showing the last two episodes of Season 5 some time next year.
I haven't seen that anyone else has posted this information. If it has been posted, I apologize for the redundancy.

It's been posted multiple times, but that's cool ... I'm sure people forgot. Along with Hush, Buffy v. Drac, and The Body, they weren't in the marathon poll either. Looks like some holiday episodes on the 24th and 25th.

It's not that I don't want to respond I just want to read you advise from everyone point of you and I ask this question because I bought the sopranos 2nd season first and I want to see it already but I felt that I should wait until I see the 1st season and that goes for buffy since I got hooked on buffy some time ago. but thanks for everyone's point of view and I think that I should wait till I buy the 1st season to have a feel for the characters.

The first episode of Buffy I caught, was second seasons "Go Fish" and was pleasently amused, but not so much that I would watch it unless I was really ill and so clogged with snot I couldnt move (which I was at the time). I then started watching Buffy during the season three reruns and became a regular by the season four premire. I havent looked back, and I'm a fanatic, so much so that when the cable went on the fritz during the season five premire, I nearly cried and was bummed for the next day or two..... So, long story short, yes, you can watch it in the middle and catch on.
I watched two episodes of the Sopranos when it first began (I think the third and fourth episodes) before it became such a huge hit, and I was absolutely unimpressed. Go figure. Dont have HBO anymore.
