a buffy question

for buffy to become the slayer, the old slayer had to have died. so who was that slayer and have they ever mentioned her?

Now that's a damn neat question. I don't think they've mentioned it in any episode yet. Nifty.

Not certain, but I don't think they've ever mention the name of the previous slayer before Buffy.

The only thing we know is that Buffy is prettier than the last Slayer...

Wasn't there an episode that showed times in Spike's history when he killed two slayers?

I'm not sure how many ryears before Buffy these two were.

or....

Into every generation there is a born a Slayer....So whose to say she may be the last one...remember she was ignorant to her liniage, and had to be tested and so forth. Seems like every other slayer they introduced in this series (even the one's Spike killed) already knew what was ahead of them. I dunno just my opnion I could very well be wrong.

One was at the turn of the century, the other was in the 70's.

I don't think that "generation" thing is literal. The creator of the show's pretty much explained it as there being a large pool of potential slayers; one dies, and the next one is automatically activated. Buffy's not the last slayer; she died once (temporarily), and was followed by Kendra. That death used up Buffy's "New Slayer" card. Kendra died, which called up Kendra's new slayer, Faith. That's why no slayer was created when Buffy died this last time.

(spoiler below refers to an episode from season 5 if memory serves, and I don't think FX has gotten to this one yet)

Interesting question. I remember thinking that it must have differed from the movie in this respect, too, since in that movie the same soul kept getting reborn a slayer (with the same face). Both ways are interesting to me, so I'm happy either way. Though I do think an episode that explores the most recent slayer before Buffy would be quite interesting (hopefully better than the episode on
Spoiler:
the first slayer
).

I don't think they have ever talked about the one before her, but they have said that Buffy is the only slayer to live as long as she has.

I've read a number of the slayer books and they mention one previous slayer on a number of occasions but they don't say she was Buffys immediate predecessor. They haven't covered this topic in any of the tv shows.

Didn't Buffy say the life expectancy of a slayer was around 25 years of age?
