This is the first episode I have attempted to watch since the season premiere and I must say that I think it is rather good. I kind of like the new air Reyes and Dogget bring to the show, it brings about some interesting change.
Annabeth Gish is hot IMO. While no Scully, I wouldn't turn her down if she asked me to dance or drink with her at a bar.

This felt more like an "Outer Limits" episode than an X-Files episode, but it was still nicely paced and interesting to see how Reyes and Doggett's feelings manifest themselves under these conditions.
But, the resolution of the parallel world switcheroo didn't really work for me. If this really happened, then letting Doggett die shouldn't bring back "our" Doggett back to "our" X-Files universe, should it? Seems to me, Lukesh was the only one that would be able to create that "parallel universe hop" field that the "other" Doggett walked into with Lukesh.
Now if it was just Reyes' imagination running wild on her, well, I can accept that.

i liked the episode overall. but the story didn't hold together very well. i can buy into the concept of a parallel dimension, but if they're gonna set rules, they need to abide by them.
doggett "crossed over" into the other dimension and was shot. by crossing over, he 'erased' the other doggett. therefore, it would make sense that for the other doggett to come back, he would have to cross back over, and not simply die. and the show also implied that doggett's death then caused reyes to cross over back to her old dimension. the problem is - she never crossed over to a parallel dimension to begin with. this kinda decreases the credibility of the story.
anyhow, i also liked the introduction of the chemistry between doggett and reyes, though i was surprised it happened already. it took, what, 4 years before any spark was shown between scully and mulder?
and yah, reyes is HOT. surprisingly, i'm finding her a bit more attractive than scully. maybe because she's got a bit more emotion. love that little dip above her upper lip. how tall IS she???

Not too bad an episode, plot theory was a little weak. I am getting really tired of Brad (Cary Elwes).

Not unlike a Star Trek discussion.
In addition to hahn's and Patman's comments: if Reyes is aware of the changes, why isn't Doggett? Where did the healthy Doggett go during all of this? What did he do? Did he have a good time?

Maybe I'm nuts, but at the end, I got the impression that *she* was really the one who had crossed over... not Doggett. So, when she ended up back at her place, she was returning to her correct parallel world where Doggett was "with her" like she kept saying all along. Maybe the murder of her "twin" pulled her across or something.

I'm starting to think Scully could go bye bye and I wouldn't even miss her.

Well, I'd rather go with the "Reyes' imagination going wild" because at least we don't have to figure out the "trigger" that swaps the two Reyes between universes. The sliced up Reyes died, but she wasn't near Lukesh for a swap to happen easily (then again, we don't quite know how his powers work either, other than Reyes' assumption of having to be near Lukesh).Originally posted by Dead

i think that we're all reading too much into it and that the writers weren't thinking of any of this.
but they SHOULD have. a good storyline is a cohesive one that follows its own rules.

X-Files is dead. Its ratings are worse than ever (down 40% from last year, I think.) I hope the producers don't even take this season into consideration when they make the movie (and they reveal that Mulder just got lost going to get milk and cigarettes.)

the movie could be about mulder being on a secrete mission during this season on the timeline. Scully could know about it but not dogget and that other girl

I agree. The whole episode I kept thinking "third wheel". Originally posted by G. Noel Gross

Without Mulder there anymore, the focus really isn't on "Mulder and Scully." It's on "Doggett and Reyes" now. I wish there were a way for them to let her out of her contract early and get rid of her now, instead of having to endure a whole season of the writers trying to "fit her in".

I agree! I really love the relationship between the new characters. It's really the stories that counts, especially when the actors are actually pretty good! As for this story ... the ending was simply terrible! Just didn't make sense at all! It doesn't make sense that the girl crossed over to the one where she's dead because everyone would know that she got killed!
What would make more sense is for Doggett to reappear in the alley where his counter part got shot ... humm ... how about buck naked just like in T2?! But then the hospital Dogget's body would have to disappear, and everyone would have to be either brainwashed like in MIB or try to understand this temporal stuff or be all cancelled! 8-)

I thought this episode was pretty good .... BUT it seemed to exist as an excuse for character development for Reyes and Doggett. The resolution was jumped to so quickly and the antagonist so not sinister enough! I mean I would have liked to see more about him and the "other side" too and maybe even some of Reyes getting the creepy vibes that she has a minor knack for sensing.
I think the writers were implying that this parallel universe business is not as clear cut and one may percieve it. Otherwise - how would Reyes be dead in one and alive in the other or wouldn't there be two Lukeshs running around? If emotional trauma to Lukesh allowed him to do these cross-overs, could not the emotional trauma that Reyes experienced by killing Doggett paired WITH Doggett 2's death be enough to suck both the real Doggett and Reyes back to the last point of normal time existence? COME ON PEOPLE - THIS IS SCIENCE FICTION!
Really liked the opening though - classic sort of WTF!?! (noticed the police car was missing when Lukesh reappeared behind Doggett.) I especially liked EREHT TUO SI HTURT EHT logo at the end of the credits.

Wow, I just checked the Neilsen ratings for this episode -- it landed dead last for its timeslot. ALIAS even beat it (a great show, but it has been struggling in the ratings all season). Looks like they are going to waste this entire season trying to develop these 2 characters, only to have the show not even return.
