primetime glick...
the new primetime glick show with martin short on comedy central thursday nights is the most creative show to hit tv in recent months...what do you think about that?

I think it's about as uncreative as it gets. The Glick character was hilarious on Short's talk show, but there's only so much you can do with one gag. Like most minor characters that get entire shows built around them, Glick has a limited resource of funny. Short realizes this and tries to fill the rest of the half hour block with his imitations, a few of which are funny, but he's just not talented enough to carry a show by himself. It's the same thing every week. Glick asks the same questions, references his wife and 4 kids, including Matthew and Modine, chokes on some food, and falls out of his chair. I laughed heartily the first one or two times this happened, but each week is the same ... nothing new ... no creativity whatsoever. He does the same impressions each week, and his Tommy Lee Jones isn't even good.
I like the concept, and I love the character of Glick, but taking 5 minutes of funny and stretching it to 30 minutes week after week just ruins the whole gag. It's a lot like TV Funhouse. Smigel's cartoons are great, but he can't keep up the pace for 30 minutes a week. One cartoon every couple of weeks on SNL was great, and Triumph was one of the best bits ever on Conan, but when you stretch something too thin, and then beat it to death, it's no longer funny. Someone should have told this to Chris Berman before he did his 30 minute long nickname special.

Yeah ... it's one of the funny gags that unfortunately gets beaten to death.
He'll say something like:
"You know my wonderful wife of 25 years, Dixie, and I have four gorgeous boys: Morgan, Mason, Matthew and Modine. The twins are named after that wonderful actor who was in those pictures whose names escape me at the moment."
I fell out of my chair the first time I heard that. Unfortunately, he'll say something almost exactly like that every week. I wonder if there are writers for the show other than Short. Perhaps that's the problem.
