Questions about TiVo

Hey guys I'm thinking about getting a TiVo but got a couple questions. I'm TiVo dumb (never used/seen it before) so don't assume I exactly understand how the thing works.

I'm a cheapskate and don't have a regular phone line, just a cell phone. If I get that hookup think that lets you connect a laptop modem to the cell phone, could I hook my TiVo up through that??

What if I go on vacation for a few days, take my phone, and the TiVo can't hook up to get the schedule? Will it miss my shows?

A while back I remember reading about how you can hack into a TiVo unit (or was it ReplyTV?) and add another hard drive for extra recording time... where can I find instrucations for that? I remember a TiVo type forum...

If I change from non-box regular cable, to digital cable, or to DirectTV, for example, will the regular TiVo box still work? Or do I need to buy the special DirectTV box?

Thanks!

apeaoples, I only use the phone line once every two weeks. Otherwise it's not connected. Works fine.

Another question....

What's the situation with hard-disk recorders in Canada? I've never seen ReplayTV or Tivo available anywhere here, just a "Personal Video Recorder" offered with some Satellite packages. Are these the same things?

Thanks!

I don't know if they're the same products, but ReplayTV and TiVo are categorized as "Personal Video Recorders."

And if anyone out there is half thinking of getting one of these, I wholeheartedly recommend it, I have had one the directivo one for most of this year, got it in March same time as I got DirecTV, and if it's not the best thing I bought all this year I don't know what is.

I get more enjoyment out of this than my new BMW, well it's close but maybe equal enjoyment...

Both are Kickarse

When I begin to question the existence of God, I just look at my DirecTiVo ... and everything is clear once more.
