X-Files 11/18/01

Well, still a bit murky as to who you can trust, but at least some statement of phenomena occurred with:

Lucy Lawless's character, Shannon McMahon, explaing how she and Noah (Adam Baldwin's character) were the 1st prototypes of super-soldiers genetically engineered to be the perfect soldiers - can withstand gunshot blasts, very strong/fast, can breath underwater. Now with the bit about the genetic scientists polluting the water supply to either create more super-soldiers or handicapping the population against these soliders is something we don't know is true either way.

Obviously all the stuff that Noah fed Doggett has to be suspect from the get-go, and the way he manuevered Scully via Doggett almost has to mean that Scully's baby is indeed one of those miracle super-soldiers who'll grow up with some nifty special powers and capabilities. But I don't think I'll be around to find out how young William turns out unless he's got an accelerated growth pattern built into his newly revised DNA.

Scully's downward spiral into the "paralyzed" mom role saddens me. But she doesn't have much alternatives.

Too bad Doggett gave up on his investigation on Kersh, who probably has way too many secrets that would wrap up the X-Files in a couple of episodes if he spilled what he knew.

The writing of Mulder out of the X-Files series is just too dumb for me to accept.

All the "mystery" is getting almost too thick to enjoy on a weekly basis. There is no "good" guys in the FBI as far as I'm concerned, but it's so hazy as to each person's motive that it's almost impossible to keep score as to who's "winning". I'll probably stick around for the season, but we be on a long ride to nowhere.

animal mother, I mean Noah was a badass
I still think they should have ended it after last season and just made some more movies. this season so far hasn't been too great
not horrible, but it doesn't feel right with out mulder
hopefully the lone gunmen will continue to be in every episode

i agree, it doesn't feel right without mulder, but they could at least use scully more. she had some action tonight, but all this business with her at her house with the baby just seems like a waste of talent. i guess they're phasing her out of the show it just seems like they might as well use her more while they have her instead of just dulling her character down to nothing.

Okay, a shot of Lucy Lawless's bare ass in part 1 receives a parental warning, but scenes from part 2 that seem like something out of an EVIL DEAD or DEAD ALIVE movie gets nothing?

Severed heads and bodies on the floor. Xena chopping off a supersolders head off.
A damn hand busts through Shannon's chest....... the whole thing was bloody as hell.

IMO, it's getting too convoluted to follow. Scully is reduced to a yawn and if they don't end it this season, don't expect me to keep watching.

I can't decide if it's convoluted or the total polar opposite. There isn't anything going on at all. It's like "Kersh is bad. Oh, he's good? Ok. Fine."

You mean back when the show was good. I loved that whole mythology sub-plot but it never went anywhere. It just kind of fissled out in the 7th season and we got season 8(yuck) and now the crap-fest that is season 9.

Just for the record, not only do I think Kirsch is bad, but I think he's an alien. And a dork.

After these first two (*yawn*... oh, excuse me) epsiodes, I don't expect I will even make it to the end of this season. In fact, I may not make it to the end of episode 3.

I just watched a few episodes from the Season 4 boxed set and then watched last nights ep. The current show just simply isn't X-Files... it's almost a totally different show, and not a very good one at that.

I don't agree that it's not a good show. Just not the X-Files of old anymore. It's not like a brand new show like the Star Treks, but something like ER would be with all new Drs and if it was a vet and not a hospital.

I still think it's a great drama (not top 5, but still better than most...say Max Bickford) but not that great if you've been a fan all these years and wanted some kind of payoff. Mulder being gone hurts the show more than I expected and Scully is basically gone too. Not that I mind Gillian looking hot in those outfits she's been in, but without the trademark suits and with her almost not even part of the story arc, it's just like it's really Gillian in the show and not Scully. And I really can't believe the Mulder reason for being gone, it was just so lacking in imagination.

After 8 years of almost always dying, suddenly he's REALLY going to be killed and Scully tells him to disappear?

I agree with the one minute someone's good and the next their bad point too. It was really stretching it the last two years but I think most diehard fans wanted to go along and give them a chance. But this is really disappointing. The show seems to make things foggier and foggier, now with super soldiers. Wasn't aliens and colonization enough? And where did these aliens go? Have the decided they don't even buy into the plot and just abadoned earth if TV can't even make sense here?

I could complain for days. The first two shows were about as bad as I could have imagined. I absolutely wanted to give them a chance. Now, for me, the hardest part aside from losing Mulder and Scully (she's basically gone now) is that we have to watch the show PRETENDING the last 8 seasons didn't happen just to be able to buy that the focus is now Super Soldiers and Water Treatment to make all people one day into these Soldiers.

Good Grief!

I really feel bad for the actors because even the new ones are top notch and are doing their best with terrible lines in a show Fox seems to want to keep around for a few more years with new agents. I like the new agents, but give them their own show (with a different name) and shut this one down after this season and let X-Files fans look forward to one more movie or even two.

That would be fine by me.

i agree that the show isn't what it used to be, but it certainly has the potential to carry on as a decent drama. it looks to me like carter is setting things up to carry on with the 2 new agents in the x-files. scully is out after this year. maybe then they can just get back to the business that used to be the x-files, monsters and weird sh!t. this government conspiracy is just getting tired. i don't know, maybe it's too late to recover this show, now that they've gotten so deep into the government angle. it would be kind of tough to get back to what the x-files used to be.

I think I would like to see a show with Dogget and Reyes, but something other than the X-Files. I guess I really can't get past the fact that the show was about Mulder's Quest and Scully's part in that. If he were in it to even a smaller degree and played into it, it could be interesting, as long as Scully is still involved. Without him, it just doesn't seem to be working.

Maybe it's because they haven't really established Dogget and Reyes together. I don't know.

Maybe once Gillian Anderson's contract is up, they should re-name the show: NeXt-Files.

I concur with Elektra, the X-Files was mainly about Mulder's search for the truth, and Scully was just tagging along, and became a believer along the way. Now, it's just not anything special anymore. The research that Mulder had at his disposal now drags the show around for way too many screen minutes. Do I really enjoy watching Doggett to keep barking, "What's that mean? What does *that* mean?" for the umpteenth time? No. The second Reyes starts on a line of investigation that employs some "John Edward" Crossing Over motif, I'm outtathere!

I also have to agree that the show just isn't what it used to be. I just need something cleared up by someone who has been paying more attention then myself.

Last season that Billy guy or whoever was returned by the aliens, just as Mulder had been. He then shed his skin or whatever and became an alien-human highbred, I think? But as I recall, he had super human strenght, could regenerate, and had that vertebrae defect that these supersoliders have.

If I am correct about Billy, is there a chance that there is some connection between the super soldiers and the human-alien highbreds?

I think that's the whole point: The alien hybrids are the supersoldiers and the government has been doing this alien-human hybrid experiment under the guise of alien abductions to discredit anybody who thinks they've latched on to a govt conspiracy. Still, i'm sure there are thousands of holes in this. It's a mess.

I liked last weeks episode. This one was really bad. It's the second season, and Doggett's character should have been settled in by now. But it's not. Scully asked three times for the science, but then was satisfied by some rubbish about "changing the molecular structure." Monica's only defining characteristic is that she used to boink a deputy director. The conspiracy has changed from a managable number of people in key positions to four or five people in the FBI alone.

On a more fundamental level, the fear that someone has taken your baby and left a changeling is good. The fear that the government is poisoning your water supply is okay ... if you're a John Bircher or a WTO protester. The fear that the government is breeding supersoldiers is just silly.

Mulder had friends protecting him. Why wasn't Doggett fired? That would have been a surprise, and thus cool. Instead, I watched a 'thriller' without one surprise.

I'm ready to quit.

I stopped watching it this season... I had missed perhaps 1-2 episodes total in the last 6 or so seasons but after last season, it just wasn't worth watching, I've seen a few commercials and saw that Lucy Lawless was in it... that was enough to get me away from the Xfiles for good.
