William Shatner serves as "The Chairman," presiding over the smoking-hot action as the world's top chefs roast, toast and sauté their way to gustatory glory. Staged in a sporting event-like atmosphere, "Iron Chef USA" features frenetic culinary battles between today's most talented chefs as they race against the clock to create outstanding original cuisine.

Am I the only one that ditched Iron Chef after it became bandwagon?
It used to be on the local Asian channel and was comepletly underground, it became big through word of mouth and then somehow they lost the rights to be able to subtitle it in english
, so then none of us could watch it anymore. It's ratings died, they lost the rights completely, and then Food Network picked it up, and dubbed it!
It just hasn't been the same since, and I stoped watching all together. And now they're furthering their Americanization of this show.

I am in no way shape or form excited about this. I read a review of an audience member who said basically, the network honchos believe that they can spice it up by having an audience that hoots and hollers like a WWF match the entire time. There were quiet a few other things that made it sound horrible. The reviewer did say that Shatner was good, lackadaze and smug, obviously realising how silly it all was. I'll stick with the original.

Oh, and if it's like a WWF match, I may fall asleep ... what? what? WHAT! WHAT!

First of all, this is not going to be a series, it is just two one-hour specials, so I think it will be fun.
Secondly, Shatner IS perfect for the role, he truly does know how to ham it up. (And let's face it, the original Chairman Kaga was a total ham as well. He also was just an actor hired for the part, he had nothing to do with cooking).
Should be a good time (if you don't treat Iron Chef as sacred ground).

I never saw the original, so I'll take "USA" for what it's worth

JOA, I only thought it was worth watching after they dubbed it. If I wanted to read, I wouldn't be watching tv. I look forward to this, and I enjoy the current show greatly. My wife thinks it is stupid, but she never understood MST3K either.

I was a real fan of the show. But when they got rid of the subtitles I watched it a few times and lost interest. Then when it came back dubbed I watched a few minutes and never tuned in again -- it was horrible!
