Bill Maher expects "Politically Incorrect" to end after this year
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,38317,00.html
[quote]NEW YORK — Embattled Politically Incorrect host Bill Maher doesn't expect to keep his show on ABC after his contract expires next year.[quote] This is due to the coward statement he made after 9/11 |
Good.
I can't stand him. |
:( That's kind of disappointing. I don't watch the show often but usually enjoy it (depending upon the guests of course) when I do. Personally I think this whole incident has been blown WAY out of proportion.
His "response" though seems a little bogus... "These are sensitive times, and I should've been more clear when, in a discussion of how we have in the past conducted our war on terrorism, I said 'We have been the cowards . . ' The problem there is the word 'we,' I think. It's indistinct, and I should've been more clear." |
something I noticed about PI, was that it was way more incorrect when it was on comedy central. once it went to abc it got more pc, at least the times I watched it
|
Is ending the show the Politically Correct thing for him to do?
inquiring minds.... :D |
Well, that certainly sucks, his show is one of the few challenging tv shows left.

I thought that piece of **** was already cancelled. I always thought that he was a jerk-off, but more so after the crap he said on his show about 9/11. If he were smart he'd get out of the country before some pissed off person puts a bullet in his head. Ignorant Bastard.

My understanding when I saw the show, was that he was saying our policy was "cowardly" when those terrorists blew up our embassies Africa (which to me is the same as attacking our "soil") and that we should have gone in instead of lobbing a couple of missiles. It worries me when voices of dissent are attacked, moving our society away from the freedoms protected in our Bill of Rights toward our polar opposite: societies like the one the Taliban dream of. |

Khalid...
 |
I have no problems with freedom of speech, which is why I was using that freedom to speak on what I think of him. It was tasteless, but sure he has the right to say it. Kinda like the rights of nazi's who spout ignorance. It's their right to say it, but don't expect people to not want you dead for it. Not that I want Maher dead (but yeah I'd like to see all nazi's dead). Maybe beaten a little though. Anyway rant over. I hope Maher enjoys flipping burgers.

I think it's ridiculous that his show is cancelled because our country blew his little statement way out of proportion. He was merely saying that it's harder for someone to kill themselves than it is to push a button to hit someone else with a bomb. All feelings aside. He wasn't saying that he admires the terrorists, or that he likes them better or anything.

He has a show?
I turned on ABC at 12:30 once and all I saw was a stream of commercials. |
I don't think the show's gonna get cancelled at all. That's just more of Bill talking it up to get an effect from people. Since he said that whole free speech thing though, his show has totally jumped the shark and is as pc and conservative as you can get.

Good.
|
i'd assume another network would pick it up...
|
This isn't in the TV Forum yet?
|
I remember discussing this in the Otter Farm when it first happened, and like all things, his statement was completely out of context. Bill Maher is a self-serving arrogant prick, but his statement was harmless, and it's pathetic that people jumped on the "I hate Bill Maher" bandwagon without knowing what the hell they were talking about. Baaaa ... baaaa ... is that the sound of sheep I hear?
I don't necessarily agree with him, but his point was completely valid. It was also good to see ABC stand by him (NOT) on this issue. das |

I'm not big Politically Incorrect fan because I think the guests are idiots (for the most part) but it sucks to see more of this "freedom given up for security" thing the Bush Admin keeps preaching.

don't let the door hit you on the way out, bill.

Sounds like Bill found a way to not blame his crappy ratings. I used to enjoy it on Comedy Central, but it got old quick. I also think there wasn't enough show. All I remember is smart ass comment to end opening monologue, smart ass comment to get to commerical, smart ass comment to get to commercial, smart ass comment to get to commercial, smart ass comment about being out of time, show over.

PI is far from being cancelled and will live on at least through 2002
because we need shows like that. Shows that people can voice their opinion on and that home viewers can discuss. He had every right to say what he did and it was blown way out of proportion. It's true what someone said above, Politically Incorrect is one of the few challenging and intelligent shows left on tv. --It seems like sometimes we have more flag-buying than good sense floating around the United States.-- It's also good that a decent number of people hate Maher because that means he "saying something" rather than blowing smoke up everyone's azz like a lot of network television. |
