I enjoyed it but there's just not enough there for even one season.

I guess I would classify "The Tick" as 'cute'.

My thoughts exactly. Although I think it would be fun if they left it on. It has a sort of 'B' quality to it. Kind of a Little Shop of Horrors feel. I'll certainly be watching this over Will & Grace, but I'm not sure which would win my vote if NBC committed to Swartz.

I also like Captain Liberty.

I watched it last night...I've seen a few episodes of the cartoon, so I'm a little familiar with the premise of the show. I thought the show would be funnier than it was...:( I'll probably watch a couple more episodes, but if it doesn't get any funnier, I'll ditch it. Cool Tick costume, though.

It was okay, but this thing is going to sink so fast its not even going to be funny. Patrick Warburton is the real saving grace; it amazes me how you can virtually tell no difference between the Tick comic, cartoon, and now live action- the Tick is portrayed exactly the same, in all three mediums, no one messes with the character.

"Gravity, Harsh Mistress."

Really the only thing it did was make me yearn for the cartoon agian. Wish Comedy Central or Cartoon Network would rerun it.

I was super-excited about this, so maybe my expecations were too high. In any case, WAY to weird to remain on the air very long.

But Fox, PLEASE save the Family Guy, Quagmire's doorbell

I thought he said 'Gravity is a harsh mistress!'

That was pretty funny. He was very quippy. Reminds me of the cartoon. Great cast. I hope it makes it.

Sometimes I wonder what it is people are expecting. First I finally got to see Final Fantasy last night (due to having received a scuffed disc the first time around) and I thought it was AMAZING! I will never understand the gripes about this one. It was high tech anime for Chrissakes. Good story, dialogue acting and super amazing visuals and design work. I guess everyone thought this wasn’t going to be an exceptional cartoon but a Fellini work instead,

Back on subject. The Tick comes on and I was basically laughing non-stop for half an hour straight (minus the 3.5 minutes for commercials). I don’t remember the cartoon being better than this. The live action is killer. So what if it doesn’t look like David Fincher directed it, a slightly fake looking city is totally appropriate for this milieu. Patrick Warburton is so perfect it is frightening and the dialogue is non-stop hilarious. I guess either I’m going in with lower expectations than everyone else or I’m just easier to entertain. I will definitely buy this on whatever recorded medium it is ever released on.

“…if you get my meaning.”

“…Nope!” rotfl

Kudama 11-09-01 02:59 PM

 and Apocalypse Cow?

This show has a million of 'em! And how far were they allowed to go with sexual innuendo jokes in the animated version?

I LOVE THIS SHOW!!!

kvrdave 11-09-01 03:29 PM

I expected it would translate poorly to live action, so I expected very little. I never saw anything on the previews that got me too excited. That being said, I absolutely loved it. I don't think it will last, but it might grow on people. It is so much better than a lot of crap on TV, so hopefully it finds a home.

Well, except for him telling the coffee machine that it's now his bitch. That seemed a lot less innocent than the cartoon Tick was.

I thought the episode had some great parts and I'll keep watching. It made me dig out some videotapes of the cartoon, too.

Lampei 11-11-01 05:14 PM

Yup, it definitely has my vote. Just like the comic and the animated series. The dialogue is excellent and certainly makes the show IMO. I just hope it lasts longer than the animated version of Clerks.

AndyCapps 11-12-01 08:45 AM

I'm sure I'll botch these quotes:

"So, we meet again Vending Machine Menace."

"I wouldn't go out there my little friend. Apocalypse Cow is 50 feet tall. She shoots fire from her teets."

I thought it kicked ass. I'm sure it won't last very long, but it sure is sweet. Now this is coming from someone whose never read the comic or watched the cartoon.

clemente 11-12-01 07:49 PM

"No offense intended"

Tick, blank face "None comprehended!"

Hehehehe.....

Yes, it's good. Yes, it's quirky. Yes, it's intelligent. Unfortunately it's on Fox.

Good+Quirky+Intellegent=Low Ratings

Low Ratings+Fox=Cancelled.

D-Ball 11-13-01 02:32 AM

Does this show remind anyone of the movie Msytery Men?

JaxComet 11-13-01 08:13 AM

How does something like this make it on the air? I can't imagine people sitting around a big table saying "Oh yeah! That's an incredible idea. Lets put it on" It baffles the mind!!! -eek-

Hmm...let me think,
1. because it's a great show
2. because it's well written
3. because they had a comic book and cartoon as a litmus test beforehand.

I'll give it five episodes. Although what you say may be true. The trailer does nothing to support this plus I think it's target audience is much too small......

Lampei 11-13-01 08:50 AM

You're spot on about the audience size. I don't know if it will last too long as it does have a strange appeal. The show is definitely not for everyone. I'll be an avid watcher though. There's nothing much good on any other station though, so perhaps they'll draw a few million other people in. We Tick afficionados can always dream :)

AndyCapps 11-13-01 10:21 AM

Why don't they show commercials for it? I watched part of Ally Mcbeal and saw no commercials. If I hadn't heard about it here I would never have seen it. They're pulling a WB move on it.

It's not that The Tick is for a niche market, it's that Fox the studio doesn't support this at all & will kill it because it won't understnd why the show isn't drawing people with no advertising or suppport. :(
