Hmmmm? Let's take a look at the 2 page TV Guide Ad:

"One Of The Most Exciting Opening Nights Ever.... Like A First-Rate Summer Movie Thriller....The Best New Show Of The Season." - TV Guide

(Actually I found it pretty boring and slow moving)

"An edge of the seat thriller....the most anticipated show of the season." `New York Times

(I was on the edge of my seat dosing off)

"This year's best new series...and one fabulous show." - USA Today

(I liked UC Undercover's opening episode better and I wouldn't call this premiere "fabulous")

"The best drama of the year. The hot new show to watch." - Rolling Stone

(And "The Animal" was the best comedy movie)

"Supercool." - Time Magazine

(Supercool? Are the Olsen Twins writing for Time Magazine these days? Maybe the quote comes from Teen Magazine? You got it dude)

"Hands down, this is one of the most engaging shows of this or any season." - Washington Post

((More like thumbs down as I was not engaged)

I thought I heard a review that said you have to be patient and give the show a little while to pick up the pace. I guess I'll give the second episode a chance, but I agree with what's already been said here; I certainly wasn't too impressed with this show.

And what self-respecting college kid drives around in a purple Scooby Doo-mobile?

Unless he lives less than 3 minutes away from his office, the drive to work wasn't "real time" either (he left home at 12:07 and arrived at work at 12:09). Also, for like the first 15 minutes it was following the right time pretty well but after the first commercial break I noticed the show's clock was ticking faster than the clock on my digital cable box. By the end of the show they were like 6 minutes faster.

All in all, I think this show was over-hyped, but I'll keep watching anyway since Smallville has already gotten stale after just 3 episodes, and compared to the rest of the drivel the networks are giving us this season this show isn't all that bad.

I think everything will tie in pretty well. Those two college kids with his daughter look like they have something to do with the whole Assassination situation, and I'm wondering if the guy who claims to be the father of the other girl isn't actually a bad guy going to kidnap his wife.

On the plus side, I was fooled into thinking that the Man on the plane was the assassin only to find out it was the lady sitting next to him. So I have to give them that.

They fooled me too. That was one of the few bright spots from tonight's show.

ha - i was pretty sure it was the girl from her first line on - of course I wasn't sure until the end...

I also definitely noticed the time imperfectios with my digital cable clock.

That aside, plus a few minor complaints, I found it very engaging, and I'll definitely keep watching - but there's NO WAY it could have possibly lived up to the hype.

Unblievable... THAT I @#&#*'n MISSED IT! All the ads said it would be on at 9:00pm, and I am quite aware of the time differences in Hawaii, making shows normally come on an hour earlier, but I saw no fewer than 4 LOCAL ads with the local 'voice' announcing the show coming on at 9pm as well.
I did see the last five minutes, but damn. I'm aggravated.
Here's to hoping it will be rebroadcast before next week's episode.

edit: alright, so it is being shown again friday. I work that night however, so I guess I'd better learn how to program that VCR.

You can catch "24" again on Fox on Friday, 11/9 and on FX 11/11 and 11/12. Check your local listings for the times in your area.

Here is the schedule for FX, just in case you miss the Fox showings.

I was very intrigued by the first episode and look forward to next week. It was very well made and performed. Overall a very good show.

I hope this thread can be one of fans of the show. Not just somewhere where folks come to complain about how the show was over hyped, so it is not that good. Has anything besides sex ever lived up to the hype. I think not.

No show should be held up the promotional hype layed out by the idiots at the network level. Hell, I dont think Fox made more than two different promos, placed in super heavy rotation. Aimed at the men in the heavy sports programming that lead up to this weeks start up.

It's a good thing since I fell asleep during the last 15 minutes. I hope the show improves........

I can't wait for the episode where he has to take a big dump and is in the bathroom for 15 minutes.

I thought it was interesting that they left the plane explosion in. I thought that part of the delay in airing the show was to cut that segment out?

Heh ... classic problem ... when the big celebrity is on the plane, you know she's the key figure ... not the other guy.

Anyway, I enjoyed it. I would have liked it much more if not for all the damn_hype. It was enjoyable, but there were three better shows on that night alone. I'll continue to watch, likely till the end, but it was nowhere near the event they made it out to be.

at Iron Chef!

It's funny, because it's true!

On a more serious note... I thought the show was pretty intriguing, and plan on catching most of the season if it keeps getting better.

Damn you people are critical, you know that? I thought the show was pretty good actually. Sure, it's going to be slow the first time around, since it's the FIRST EPISODE. If you have nothing but key plot turns and action sequences, guess what - there's not going to be anything left for when they SHOULD be in there.

I was a fan, and I'll catch next week's as well.

I can't believe there are so many people out there bashing this series. What would you RATHER be watching? Will & Grace? Friends? Come on, with the amount of "quality" TV being on the air these days (meaning ---> ONLY the Sopranos basically,) and everything else that comes out is nothing but a pile of garbage, I was glad to see an "above average" show come out.

I can name 20 shows that should be cancelled due to their insult to the human intelligence in the next 20 seconds, but I won't. There's no need for me to even discuss them. Why? Because if I do, then I'll just be promoting the shows, and more and more idiots will go out and watch them. You guys need to realize that just because something didn't "live up to the hype," there's no need to jump on the "anti" band-wagon. Of course, unless you're talking about Star Wars Episode I

As for the plane crash, I'm sure that originally they showed the plane exploding, cuz you could tell there was some editing done there.

You can hardly be critical when you say there's ONLY one "quality" show on television. I'm glad you liked '24'. I enjoyed it too. I was annoyed with the hype, but I enjoyed the show and will watch it instead of 'Smallville', but while I love 'The Sopranos', there are plenty of "quality" shows. I may just be one of the "idiots" you refer to, but I'll continue to watch "garbage" like 'Six Feet Under', 'Sex and the City', 'Buffy', 'Philly', 'Once & Again', 'Oz', 'The West Wing' and plenty more shows that I consider to be well worth my time and better than '24' has shown in its first episode.

I agree that the first show was slow and didn't live up to the hype, but I will give it some time to develop.

So is the director from the old Wild Wild West series? All that split screening going on reminded me of all those Sunday mornings that I watched WWW as a kid.

I'm confused. I thought the show was going to encompass 24 hours, not occur in real time.

das monkey -

I wasn't cutting down you, man. I WAS, however, cutting down the lack of quality programming on TV these days. Sure, there are shows that may be considered "quality," but for everyone one of those, there are about 100 that are nothing less than garbage. For every Buffy, there are 10 Will & Graces, for every West Wing, there are 10 Bob Pattersons. For every Survivor, there are 10 Temptation Islands.

You know what I'm saying, I'm sure you do.

DigIt - I think you're right, because if they were to occur in REAL time, there would be big 4 minute gaps in the programming to make up for the commercials.

Showing it in real time would be stupid. What, would their lives just vanish for those 4 minutes for every commercial break?

Doubt it.

I know exactly what you're saying, and as always I was just being an argumentative prick. I do that sometimes (read: frequently ). You just threw me by claiming that 'The Sopranos' was the ONLY "quality" show out there and that everything else was "garbage". The quality level of television could be improved, and I'd love to see people actually watching the good shows instead of some of the crap that's out there, but it's been years since I can remember so much genuinely good television to choose from. Part of that is coming from more networks and more cable programming and more people willing to take chances. Sometimes I wonder, though, if I could handle any more good shows and still maintain "a life".

So... you are much smarter than most everyone else, I guess?

Instead of claiming your opinions as truth, why can't you just say that YOU don't like Will & Grace or whatever, or that IYHO there are hardly any shows that live up to your extreme intelligence level?

I'm not trying to flame you, but check out your post again. You sound incredibly solipsistic.
