What's teh deal with 24??

I see the hype commercials, what's it about and stuff? Is it like something that last's 24 episodes, and each one is a real-time hour in day? If so, what's the commotion? Why the urgency of 24 hours?

All I know is that it's the day in the life of a CIA agent who is handling a case involving a plot to assasinate a presidential candidate. No spoilers there...that's what the promos tell us.

And something about his wife and daughter ... like maybe his daughter's run away from home or is missing or is just angry or something ... enough for a major subplot.

It's just one of those days ...

WHO ARE YOU WORKING FOR?!!!!

... when you don't wanna wake up!

The pilot was maybe the best one I saw for this season. But I'm sure they have had to reshoot (or recut) a lot because it featured a sequence where a terrorist blew up an airplane.

The show is: each week is 1 hour in real time. There is a clock in every scene. Sometimes there are split screens. The season will be 24 episodes - which are the 24 hours leading up to assassination attempt on a big politcal figure. Sutherland plays a guy who works from a government anti-terrorist agency. He has a rebelious teenage daughter and has just gotten back together with his wife, but they are struggling.

The show could be really, really cool, but I wonder if the gimmick is going to get old. What happens next season? Day 2? Do we watch him sleep for 6 episodes?

According to the adverts I've heard, "24" is the new televised CURE FOR CANCER!!!

It's the apotheosis of human artistic acheivement!!

It's the television equivalent of THE SECOND COMING!!!

KIEFER SUTHERLAND IS A PIXELLATED BROADCAST JESUS!!

HALLELUEAH!!!

Better than sex - EVEN BETTER THAN THE REAL THING!!

Better than a hot fudge sundae for your straight-A report card!!

Better than opening your stocking on Christmas morning!!

Better than an orgasm in zero "g"!!!

"24" SLICES, DICES, AND MAKES COLORFUL "RADISH ROSES!!!"

"24" is stupendous, TOP-DRAWER, "THE BEE'S KNEES"!!!

( . . . can you say "overhyped?" I mean, c'mon - it stars Kiefer "you're eating maggots, Michael" Sutherland.)
