If you don't already have a dealer in mind, this one is pretty cheap - http://www.dss1.com/sale.htm
Single 301 for $9.95 or 301/2800 2-tuner combo for 99.95

or maybe this - http://www.dishdepot.com/Cart/descri...08.139.149.196

Trade a single Directv system (w/remote, smart card, dish and LNB) and get a 501 PVR for $99.95 + s&h - add a 2800 2nd tuner for $89
There you go!

DirecTV retailers (like Best Buy, Wal-mart) are almost always forbidden by Directv to sell (or probably even mention) Dish Network systems.

Hey, Soup, have you made a decision about switching to Dish yet ?

I want to, but the sports packages are the only thing hindering my decision. I'd love to know when DirecTV's monopoly over the NFL, MLB, NHL, etc ... is over!

You can usually get a pretty good deal by going directly through Dish Network. I got mine by checking out their specials on their website dishnetwork.com. I ended up getting free receiver, dish, and installation for signing up for one year of service. They don't have as good a sports package as DirectTV, but they are the only ones that can get the WB and UPN, if you don't have those in your town and they matter to you. The ONLY place I have seen sell them B&M are Sam's Club and cell phone places. Air Touch, I think.

Sears is the biggest name Dish Network retailer, but they generally don't come cheap there. Costco also sells them. Online retailers offer the best prices, though, since they have less overhead and make deals built on the kickback they get from Echostar for signing up new customers.

Is that $9.95 deal a typo on their site?

I assume you mean the one at http://www.dss1.com , and it is not a typo - single tuner DISH 500 setup w/dual output LNB and installation kit and free shipping. The site says something about an 8 month programming, but you should still qualify for the "I Like 9" promo, especially if it has been extended through the end of January, as rumored.
They have been swamped the last couple of weeks, so be prepared to wait a few days if you order one.

I spoke with a DISH cs rep today and he insisted that the promotion would end on 10/31/01...!! Better buy soon, he said that as long as you ordered the equipment pre 10/31 you would qualify..

He also said that dss1.com, allsat.com and DISHusa.com had faulty information..??

You posted this in another post, and it was quickly contradicted.

You spoke to a CSR, which is the lowest person on the food-chain.

Why not go for a person in their Marketing/Promotional Division(s) and get the straight scoop ...

Rumors of October 2001, and of January 2002 ...
