I've seen the second half of it already. Some person called me to do this survey, and I agreed, but I got cut off, and only got to see the end and then some. I still got most of the plot down.
I think it's average, not a show I'd really want to watch, but I think the mom was re-cast, and now Annette O'Toole (who played Lana in Superman 3, and mom on my beloved but dead The Huntress) is playing her, which wasn't the mom in the pilot.
BTW, if you watch "Judging Amy", Amy's bf is Tom Welling, who happens to be Clark Kent.

I just got this information from InfoBeat, how can they do Superman without the costume?!
Die-hard SUPERMAN fans are angered that their hero is about to swap his tights and red cape for a pair of jeans.
The crime-fighting hunk has been saving the world in the famous trademark outfit for more than 60 years.
But it was considered too old-fashioned for his latest TV screen adventure, titled SMALLVILLE.
The show's writers, ALFRED GOUGH and MILES MILLAR, have portrayed Superman, played by actor TOM WELLING, as a geeky teenager - who wears normal clothes.
Gough says, "It's difficult to sympathize and connect with someone wearing underpants over his tights."
Millar adds, "We wanted a new interpretation. The cape and tights added a cheesy element.
"Strip it away, and you could really get inside CLARK KENT. He wears his regular clothes. He doesn't need his suit to have his powers."
But disgusted basketball star SHAQUILLE O'NEAL, who has Superman tattooed on his arm, says, "How can people determine who Superman is without the costume? That's crazy."

Wait. Let me get this straight. Superman isn't wearing his costume? Shaq is right, how do we know it's really Superman? The costume isn't goofy or 'cheesy'. It was made out of the fabric his mom wrapped him in when he was sent to earth. It's is last link to his home ...until he makes the Fortress of Solitude. (Geek mode off)
But really, without the costume, Smallville is just a remake of the old show, 'My Secret Identity'.

A teenager is not gonna go trapsing around in blue tights and a cape
I know I wouldn't

This is a chance to see how Clark Kent tried to fit in as a teenager and I personally find it fascinating IF they do it right.
This is a view of Superman that has not been showed fully and yet has always been referenced in pratcially every incarnation of a Superman story, now we get to see at least a take on it that could suck, or could not
I hope the latter
also who do we have to talk to, to get a Superman smiley around here(or is there one?)

I dont know, but this has to be the corniest thing i have ever had. The last thing we need is WB wrecking the legend and name of Superman so the next generation of kids and teens get the misconception that he was something like James Van Der Beek.

Okay folks, as with all comics DC has this little thing called "continuity":
The original Superman could not fly. "...Leap tall buildings in a single bound." Remember? The original Superman started developing his powers immediately upon arriving on Earth.
In the current DC continuity there was no "Superboy" at all, at least not Clark Kent growing up. Clark didn't start exhibiting his powers untill around 18, as he stored up enough Solar raditiation. Now Superboy is a clone or something (don't ask me).
So it seems fairly clear that WB is going mostly with the old Supes, the one who didn't fly, the one who grew up with folks in Smallville like Lex Luthor, and a pet dog named Krypto. But no suit? Come on? Why bother?
I might be watching a bit to see what's happening, but I think the real Supes fans will turn to The JLA on the Cartoon Network.

i think it could be a great idea. always thought Clark Kent was a much more interesting character than Superman. this could be brilliant. shame Teri Hatcher won't be in it, but you can't have everything. i'm really looking forward to it.

I just saw the extended promo commercial and I have to say...doesn't look too good. Not once during the more-than-a-minute long preview did I think, "Wow! Superman!".
And as others said before...No costume? No flying? Not even the friggin' glasses??? This is not even Clark Kent! How can you say that it's Supes?
I'll still check out the pilot.
