Kate Mulgrew addresses Voyager criticism

http://trekbbs.com/ubb/Forum19/HTML/002585.html

There's no denying that there are plenty of Trek followers around here, so I thought some of you might enjoy this thread. Some of the posts are dead on target, and put together, they present a good argument for where and why Voyager weny awry.

Anyway, enjoy if you're interested.

Thanks, das. I don't read sci-fi or ST boards, so that was interesting. I find her quote pretty funny, since she said people didn't like it because it was different. Well, if it was different, I would have liked it. She obviously is not involved with sci-fi outside of STV.

Yeah ... I used to feel badly for her, because she's really a talented actress, but she obviously has a skewed view of why people hated her show, most of which wasn't her fault. People didn't dislike the idea of a female captain - people disliked the fact that the writers dumbed down half her crew because they were afraid to show a female captain in conflict. People surely didn't dislike what she called a "new" show as evidenced by DS9 - people disliked the fact that every episode was a rehashed TNG plot, and they fell back on Q and the Borg for 4 episodes every season.

Now, having spoken to quite a few people who've known her personally, I get the feeling that she's more dilusional than ill-informed. Where I used to feel bad for her, I now simply ignore her. I only hope the powers in charge of Enterprise don't believe the crap she's selling, else we'll be in for another long 7 years.

P.S. For those who enjoyed this, check out the Robert Beltran Gripe Generator.

Yeah, she is pretty in the dark, thinking Voyager was "new" or that it was bias against a female. This is Star Trek, if anything Trek fans bemoan there not being more diversity, crying over no, Asian, female, dyslexic, retarded, amputess as crew members. And "new"?, obviously she wasnt able to sit down read her script and go "Hey, isnt this just like that Next generation episode?" or "Hey, didnt we get caught in some phenomena last week?" or "Hey, didnt we do four shows already this season in which everything turned ot to be a dream/ect and never really happen?"

She obviously is a wee bit out of touch with reality. Deep down, I'll bet she hopes she's remembered only as "Mrs. Columbo."

Wow, what's this history of Beltran? Is there any synopsis somewhere? Was he really this open with his comments. Beltran sounds much more interesting than Chakotay ever did.

Beltran's my hero He wasn't excessively vocal about it, but when asked an honest question, he always replied with an honest and usually insightful answer. He realized early into it that the writers were going to make his character have no backbone because they were afraid to show a strong female character who could deal with opposition.

I remember about a month before "Endgame" when he made some comment about the writers phoning this one in and that the fans would likely be disappointed. He was dead on the money. I guess he walks the fine line of telling it like it is and whining, but at least he doesn't have his head up his ass like someone else we know.

I read her comments and some of the ones that followed and she's waaaaayyyy off base. Pretty much the folks there summed it up nicely. The writing and development was chock full of suck!
