favourite fantasy/sci-fi universe
just thought i'd get opinions about the best sci-fi/fantasy universe. not necessarily individual shows but the worlds they took you to. to qualify for this poll a show has to have had 4 or more seasons (including spin-offs).
(i've included Doctor Who and Blake's 7 more for sentimental reasons than anything else. they doesn't stand a hope in hell. not on this forum anyways.)

Things are a little too cut and dry, black and white in every one of those shows, except for Doctor Who. Really, can anyone think of a sci fi show with a more chaotic universe, filled with equal elements of vague mysticism, sober logic, wild chance, and just about everything? I opt for the universe in which there aren’t as many rules and anything can happen.

Greetings!
It actually was a tough one for me. Star Trek as pure nostalgia for me. X-Files has some really kick-butt stuff going on. As much as I liked Xena and some Hercules, overall, it can't hold a candle story-wise to the others.
I've never seen Blake 7 or Red Dwarf, so I really can't comment there and I haven't seen enough Doctor Who to seriously consider it.
Stargate, from what little I've seen, isn't bad, but I haven't seen enough of it either.
Highlander had some good stuff in it, but not enough continuity or background on the immortals.
Buffy/Angel totally rock and are two of the best shows on TV. However, Angel is only going into it's third season. I can say that it was tough, but my winner is:
Babylon 5/Crusade. Two of the best shows ever on TV.
BTW - you left out Farscape and Dark Angel.

Yeah, Farscape should definitely be there. I'd still vote for B5, but Farscape has established a unique universe. Dark Angel? Don't think so. If it even survives a full second season, it won't be around for a third ... and rightfully so.

I like Dark Angel.
It's a decent show, but they're pandering too much to the silly teen audience. They did two episodes where Logan walks for the first time and promoted the hell out of them, and that really annoyed me. Still, I watched every episode and will likely give the new season one or two episodes before I ditch it completely. Jessica Alba's acting is a little too eratic at times (not the character, the acting), and I just don't think I've bought into it the whole story yet. Something's amiss ... perhaps first season kinks ... but they better figure it out and quick, because they're one step away from cancellation. As for this thread, regardless of Dark Angel's strengths and weaknesses, I don't think the universe is anything special. It's you typical unimaginative post-apocalyptic future. All it's missing is Kevin Coster

Rascal, this time I'll agree with you! B5 certainly has more depth than the ST series, though I enjoyed both. B5 currently ranks as one of my favorite series (not just SF) of all time, so this was easy for me. I wonder what would happen if we broke the ST series into it's components (since each was a few year run on it's own) - TOS, TNG, DS9, Voyager. I supposed we'd run out of slots then, but it would be interesting.
I do agree that Farscape should get it's own slot, but I don't think Dark Angel's far enough along to warrant it...yet. In truth, there's all sorts of other series from the 80's that could make the list: V, Alien Nation, etc.

Come on guys, vote for your favorite universe!
Let's see if ST really has a bigger fan base than B5 here. Heh!
