now that comedy central is replaying sports night twice a day i got to wondering. does anyone know if they are cutting any of it out. it seems like they take commercial breaks at some really weird times and i just got to thinking.

I haven't caught many of the comedy central runs of the show, but I remember that when it was on ABC, the commercial cuts were in odd spots. The show was great, it just flowed strangely with the breaks.

I imagine there are some cuts because when a show goes into syndication, it is usually cut down a bit. Not sure of the exact details, but I remember reading about it when Seinfeld went into syndication and that's one of the reasons you usually don't get the entire theme song and opening of a sitcom when it is in syndication.

They've definitely re-edited it. It used to go something like this:
intro - commercial - 10 minute segment - commercial... etc.
Now, they cut it so that it flows like this:
intro - 5 minute segment - commercial - 5 minute segment - commercial... etc.
You can tell, because there is a noticeable fade-out after the intro that leads directly to an exterior shot at the beginning of the next segment. This fade-out used to lead to the commercial break, but they've moved the commercial further back (probably to try and grab viewers for a few minutes before losing them at commercial). The new commercial break is abrupt and RUINS the pacing of the show, IMHO.

[smacks Network's nose with newspaper]
How could ABC shut this show down with the creator's other current success on NBC?
