Besides Soprano's is it really a good cable channel. I am currently trying to convice my fiancee that it is good. We are going to get like 4 0r 5 HBO channels.

But she is leary. Is it worth it. We are going to be end up paying like 10 dollars more a month. Close to like 60 bucks.

It's arguably the best channel on cable. Their original movies (usually one a month) are almost always incredible. And their original shows are amazing. You'll hear people badmouth some of the HBO shows just to be different, but you're sure to find something you like from the following:

The Sopranos
Sex and the City
Oz
Arli$$
The Larry Sanders Show
Curb Your Enthusiasm
Six Feet Under

You can pretty much plan on an hour of great television every Sunday night and a great original film every month. Combine that with the obvious movies they show, and it's well worth the extra few bucks.

Definitely worth it. Plus if you have digital cable, you should get like 10 HBO channels.

Get your fiancee to watch an episode or two of Sex and the City, and she'll be sold.

I'll play Devil's Advocate and say I didn't think it was worth it anymore. I had it on Dish Network, where I got like 6 different HBO channels. Their selection of movies seems to get poorer and poorer every year - Showtime seems to get a much better variety. Some people like the HBO series's but I wasn't impressed by any of them. Personally I never got into Sopranos though I tried a few times. I cancelled before Six Feet Under came out, but the others pretty much all sucked. The one thing I didn't like was all the series's pretty much took over the station. There never seemed to be any movies on anymore, it was always one series/special after another. It ended up being the only time I ever watched HBO was for the occasional boxing match, and my wife watched Sex and the City every week. We decided it made more sense to cancel it and use the $10/month savings to buy the Sex and the City DVDs when they came out.

Also, I always liked Rude Awakening and Stargate SG-1(both showtime original series) better than any of the HBO ones. Plus Showtime has Showtime Beyond that had a lot of sci-fi type movies that I was into. Plus at least on Dish Network, with the Showtime package you also got Sundance channel, which made it a real no-brainer. I had Showtime and HBO at the same time, but dropped HBO since I never watched it.

So if you are interested in the HBO series', then yes, it makes sense to get the channel. If you are more into movies, avoid HBO and go for one of the other movie networks - you'll get more movies and better selection.

Yes, HBO is superior to the other two big cable movie pay channels, Starz and Showtime. At one time I had every movie channel and HBO was always better.

Recently I got a deal on Showtime and have had it for over a year and have found its gotten even worse. Showtimes special programs and films cant compare to HBO's programs and series. HBO has had Sopranos, Oz, and Mr Show, wheras Showtime has its **** targeting Queer as Folk and Further Tales of the City, and bland original series like Soul food and Chris Issak show. HBO has great documentary's like Autopsy and Life of Crime, and gets a far better caliber of films. You can almost forget watching Showtime after 11PM unless you love soft core porn crap and direct to/never on video action movies. Starz shows the same damn movies over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over...

OZ,Real Sex what ever number, and those cool autopsy shows are the only reason I have HBO. This is the network that blessed us with Pimps Up Hoes Down. I love America

I subscribe to HBO for 3-4 months out of the year - when The Sopranos is in season. Five HBO channels sounds nice but when you realize that one is in spanish and you've never even watched a single thing on a couple of others the novelty wears off quick...

I'll be getting HBO in August for the Madonna concert, but after that I probably won't keep it. At one time it was the channel to have, but with so many shows for rent or own, why bother?

Here is another vote for HBO. Plus, if you get the bonus channels, you will get Mr. Show repeats and their music show Reverb.

And as for Showtime, I think they're movies are bland (and so are HBO's), but I think the Chris Isaak Show is charming.

But don't forget in September when the mini-series Band of Brothers will air. Can't wait for that!
