Do you think the show will have the sucess it had on UPN as on the WB? Will you still watch the show? I know i Won't

What's the difference? It is the same producers, writers, actors, etc.

I know that but there are people who prefers WB over UPN . So i meant if you think there would be as much viewers watching UPN as there was on the WB

Probably fewer viewers because I think there are fewer UPN affiliates, but that doesn't explain why YOU would stop watching the show since all the same elements that go into it are still in place.

Well i agree i mean im not a drop dead FAN , but it is going to be a bit weird at first. I just think Buffy is a WB CHICK.

First off, not to be rude, but not watching a show because it switches networks is just silly. Especially when that network has little to no influence on the story lines. It's not like Letterman's move to CBS and a different timeslot. It's going to be the same exact show, just with a UPN logo in the corner instead of the WB.

As for viewership, that's tough to say. UPN is the crap network, and everyone knows that, but they have taken huge steps to secure a good Fall Season for all their shows, especially Buffy. They've dumped most of their stupid shows and have purchased some serious cult favorites. Combine that with a major media rollout that's already begun to inform viewers that positive changes are on the way, and you have a very good chance for success. Cross-promotion ads on FX to coincide with the reruns, self-promotion ads during surefire ratings machine "Enterprise" (at least for the first season), and a good timeslot spell success in terms of viewership. Combine all of that with the early jump UPN plans to get on the rest of the Fall Season shows with a 2-hour Buffy premier, and I don't see what could go wrong.

I wouldn't be surprised to see lots of cross-promotion going on between TNN, FX, and UPN with both Star Trek and Buffy. Viacom owns TNN and UPN, and I assume NewsCorp owns FX along with a majority of UPN affiliates. It just makes sense. This should be a huge turnaround for UPN, and they intend to make Buffy and Enterprise their flagships for the improved network.

All that being said, back to the first point, even if I'm the only one watching and everything else on UPN is Moesha and Homeboys in Outer Space, I will still watch Buffy. You don't give up on a great show because it switches networks.

I will watch on UPN. I get the channel, it will have Buffy, and as long as it's the same show, no reason not to.

However, making Enterprise their other flag show with Buffy, imo, might be a mistake. Word is that they have most of the same people who were working on Voyager and I've heard VERY few people say they liked the finale of Voyager. I have serious doubts about the new Trek show.

As we hijack this thread ... I too have serious doubts. Voyager strayed significantly from what Star Trek is supposed to be. Enterprise has to tread very carefully to avoid pissing everyone off, and I don't think the hacks in charge of Voyager can pull it off. I only hope that Bakula has a good idea of what Star Trek is and should be and exercises his creative control clause to keep stupid scripts off the table. I fear, however, that either he won't make good decisions or he won't stop the bad ones from coming through, and this series will stray even further from Gene's vision.

Yeah, at least Scott Bakula said that he doesn't like too much technobabble and wants more stories focused on characters, which is a good sign.

Also, UPN is gaining affiliates since they are on the rise. They just got a new affiliate in St. Louis and i'm sure they can get more now that they are changing their ways. Also, advertisers have pointed to it as the only network that is sure to increase in ratings and viewership.

Also, remember that Viacom also owns MTV and could probably promote something there in order to get younger viewers.

Well, I dont get UPN, so my only hope is syndication. I asked my local station that syndicates UPN shows and they said they are trying, hoping, to get Enterprise, Buffy, and Roswell, but wont know until July. (iaido crosses his fingers, prays to Buddha, slaughters a goat, and bows down in hope that the syndication gods will smile upon him)

Whedon has said the creative staff is pretty much the same, that the most that has changed is the producers. Since UPN is considering Buffy as a saving grace I suspect they'll give the Buffy free reign to do what they want. As long as Buffy remains true to itslef and continues to grow, I could care less when and where it airs.

To get back to Buffy...what does it matter what channel she is on? The show is still going to be the same. I will continue to watch.

I remember reading about the WB/UPN audiences back when the BuffyStationSwitch thing broke.

The weird thing is, the listing for UPN had them as having a larger audience (not by a lot, but larger) than the WB.

I wish I could find it again, but seeing those numbers were something of a relief.

UPN does have a larger audience although it has fewer stations. Most of the UPN stations are VHF (2-13) while many of the WB stations are UHF (14 and the great beyond.)

UPN relied on finding local stations to pick them up as an affilliate while WB bankrolled many new local stations that would have them as an affilliate. Unfortunately, many of those were UHF due to various restrictions as cost and availability. If you've got cable tv, it generally doesn't matter if the local cable co carries it. But, more people than you'd think don't have cable at all, and they're not generally going to look for a UHF station, which generally is going to come in pretty crappy due to the differences in teh VHF and UHF signals.

iaido, if you're interested, Dish Network has a "Superstation" package that has 3 WB's and 2 UPN's for $4.95 a month. That's what I'm doing. Dropping my crappy cable provider and getting a dish this summer. They have specials for free hardware and free installation all the time. Could be the way to go if you're desperate to watch Buffy, like I am.

My problem isn't what channel Buffy will be on. I'll watch the WB or UPN or whatever channel. My problem is this latest rumor about a recurring character:

From E! Online: Sources close to Doherty tell me their feisty friend has before her another primo project possibility: biting into a hot new UPN show, something called Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

"Sarah Michelle Gellar and Shannen are really good friends," said a pal of the former. "And I know they've been talking about doing the show together, with Shannen as a recurring character."

Along with the recurring Britney Spears role? Or the recurring Freddie Prinze, Jr. role? Seems like everyone's "good friends" with SMG nowadays and will have a recurring role on the show.

What a way to bring a show downhill! I've never cared for her or her pissy little attitude. Could never get into Charmed. Wasn't her 'tude that got her kicked off of Charmed?

Well, just cause folks are "good friends with SMG" does not mean that the creator/executive producer, Joss Whedon, will write them into the show. When it happens, I believe it.

Yep, me too. Joss Whedon is a creative control freak, and actually has a strong vision for the show. If there's a part he's created he could see her in, then possibly. I would highly doubt that he would go out of his way (and the storyline) to create a role for her though.

I hope not! I would shudder at the thought. She'd probably wind up pissing off the whole cast and crew. Then where would we be.....

I just hope this means I won't have to see Cubs games preempted on WGN because they show WB shows and had to carry Buffy instead. That always pissed me off because I never cared for Buffy and don't see what the hype is. WGN has had the Chicago Cubs forever and it really made me angry when they started doing that. Let us see the Cubs live and Chicago area Buffy fans can wait to see the show after the game.

Well that works both ways. I would prefer to pass on the sporting event (as I don't like them as much) or have it pre-empted.

But there is a BIG difference. The game is shown live usually while a television show is recorded. I think the live event should be shown live on television and the recorded show can be shown after the game is over. But that's just my opinion while i give my little happy dance at no more preempted Cubs games.

Not to pick a fight, but reading this thread, I am confused by Candylicious19. First you say it won't be the same (which even though I'm not that big of a fan of the show I don't understand how changing networks will change the show) and that you "know you won't" watch it anymore. Then you said it "is going to be a bit weird at first." Which one is it?
