A little bit too twisted I would say, but quite cool nevertheless.

Spoiler:

Well... It starts as it left off last week (I think) with Leidecker capturing Max. However that lady that commands now Manticore orders that Leidecker is arrested and killed if necessary while the X5 (Max) should be kept alive.

Leidecker manages to escape however, but is hunted by special units. He tells Max that a small team of perfect soldiers could take down Manticore by destroying the DNA Lab. Max brings Leidecker to meet with the other X5's (Zack and a couple others) creating thus the needed team. After some discussions they decide to go in and blow the DNA lab.

Everything works fine, but at some point the alarm sounds and complications start. They blow the lab, but some X7's, although just kids, are still in the perimeter and are very dangerous. As they escape the compound Max encounters such a kid with a gun which is shown shooting at her. Commercial break

We return and see the scene again: The kid shoots but Max hits him diverting the shot. They fight a bit but Max manages to escape (with Zack's help I believe) and all 4 make it to the van where Logan and Leidecker were waiting and coordinating the operation.
Then they all hang back at a bar, the X5's mingling with Max's colleagues and enjoying the new life. Max and Logan retreat to some privacy and start making love. In the middle of it though, something happens: there is blood on Max and they panic. FlashBack to the fight with the X7!!

The kid shoots and actually gets Max. Zack tries to come to the rescue but a bunch of other kids capture him too. Logan gets to Max only to see her die. He tries to bring her with him but Leidecker says it's too late and knocks him off to get him out of there.

Emergency Room inside Manticore: Surgeons trying to revive Max. Zack is there as well, moderately wounded. Max cannot be revived. Zack takes the lady-commander hostage and wants to kill her to provide a transplant for Max, the only thing that could save her. Alas, she needs an X5 transplant. Zack kills himself donating his heart to Max.

Max wakes up. She promises she won't ever be subdued. The lady commander tells her what happened. Max is troubled.

Ending: Logan on the Seattle needle meditating at life without Max and at his refusal to believe in what he saw, ie. her death...

I skipped some (possibly relevant) details, but that's basically it.

Spoiler:
just to add to the above, the kid that shoots Max is Max as a child. It seemed to be an improved version of her when she was a kid. Kinda creepy.

Additionally, someone named Joshua Alba was credited in the show. Anyone know that was?

No time travel yet. She was fighting a clone of herself. She is an X5 generation. The clone was an X7. Basically, she as fighting the kid that appears as her in the flashbacks to when she was a kid.

That was a hell of an episode. One of the best season finales I've ever seen.

Way too fast for me...

I wish they would have stretched this out to a two hour season finale... I thought alot of things were rushed, and could have been taken slower or just extended.

Spoiler:
I agree that they should have not killed Zack (but his warrior banter was really starting to get to me)... instead they should have used Tinga's heart or even killed that brainwashed X5 traitor and put her heart in Max... but hey, its summer time, and we've got 3 maybe 4 months until we see Dark Angel again... by then her scars can heal (and disappear) so that when Logan and her really go for it... he won't think that she's part Zack!

Yeah... it was Josh Alba that played Krit. The other girl (the blonde) was Syl. Maybe we'll see them back next season...

I guess I'm the only one who thought the season finale sucked....

Like I posted in an earlier thread (http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/showthr...hreadid=109009), I've been pretty disapponted with this show as a whole.

This season finale may have been the straw that broke the camel's back....I think I'll be hard-pressed to watch this show again next season.

Of the two endings in that show, one of them looked like it could have been the ending for the series if it had been cancelled. Even Lydecker had a place in that ending and the writer gave Lydecker a VERY POETIC throwaway setup that I don't think Max could have known about (Lydecker was dressed in a trenchcoat [what irony with regards to what he really wanted to do with his life!!! heh heh] and he also was sitting at the end of the bar in that pose [what irony with regards to what he wanted to do as a career] and he also was reading that ********* book [what irony!!!! heh heh]). Nice understated way of addressing Lydecker and his future and showing Lydecker was pursuing his first dream as he mentioned in a prior episode.

Since Max wouldn't have known that and other throwaway details, I figure that ending in the bar was the alternative ending for the series if it had not been renewed for the next season.

Now that Max have Zak'z heart, does it mean that on the the next season:

- Max wouldn't have any love interest towards Logan?
- Max will comeback as a meaner X5?

I have to agree, that was a good finale. I really liked that fake-out ending. Thought it was going to end really cheesily.

I didn't much like Dark Angel at first (even though I never missed an episode-blame it on Jessica Alba). After about six episodes I thought it would stay kinda crappy and I contemplated not watching it anymore (I just couldn't take that crappy "jive" talk they kept doing), but the last four episodes have been pretty good and the show's getting much darker in tone. I especially liked the episode where Max has to kill an X-5 at the end. Hopefully, next season will stay on track with these last few episodes.

I liked it too. Although I'm still a bit confused why the "happy" ending was in there. When I saw the preview, it showed Max shot and wounded on the ground with Logan so of course I knew something was up when everything seemed all good and happy with a LOT of time left in the show. Maybe it was just a time killer? Either way, I hope this show returns next season as it is my 2nd favorite new show.

The show IS returning next season. Fox ordered a whole season. Unfortunately, they sentenced it to death in the Friday, 8pm time slot.

Its a shame,

I can't believe I missed this episode! Somehow my VCR was set up one hour too early, and taped "That 70's Show" and "Ground For Life" Ack! Thanks for the recap, it sounds like I missed a doozie of a season finale!

Four posts prior to yours is probably the most likely explanation why the happy ending was there.

Excellent recap, Gandalf!

I just saw the finale last night, thanks to RePlay TV! What a finale! Definitely, one of the best I've seen this
season....

SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS

I liked it. I was trying to figure out the happy ending at first. I like the show overall and I'm going to stick with it. I don't get why they moved it to 8 pm with the adult content it has.

I was bummed that they killed Zack and also would have liked to have seen them use someone else's heart. What I'm wondering is Lydecker going to know that Max is still alive?

Although avoiding most of the spoiler articles, I was intrigued by this thread when I read it; particularly because it was a little while before the show finale aired here.

Well, the final ep screened last night in Blighty and I got to see those "two" endings. On reflection I'd say that the show that aired might just as easily have been the very final episode had the series not been renewed: the scene in the bar would have been just a little too saccharine an ending for a series with Dark in the title.

Did anyone think it may have been an oblique homage to Brazil?
Spoiler:
The protagonist dreams a happy ending but is in fact locked away and at the hands of his tormentors.

Shilex, I don't understand your point (also made by others in a separate thread) about the street language. It doesn't seem too far removed from what you see in modern-day documentaries i.e. people speak like that now.

elektra, I have to say that I disliked Zack as a character and had little time for him. Background aside I saw him as a bully and not someone who evoked sympathy. He also too often was used as a "plot coupon" i.e. returned to save the day like a magic sword or something. Sorry, but good riddance I say!
