Looking for some basic Wordpress/web design advice
So I'm not really a web designer, I'm more of a backend programmer. But someone roped me into doing a website for them, and I've dabbled in wordpress in the past, so I figured I'd give it a shot.
I've got all the technical stuff working: menus, calendar, galleries, etc that's all fine. What has got me stumped is just how to stylize a basic page.
One of their pages is just a couple pics with a bunch of text. I know how to wrap the text around the images a bit, but it still just looks so basic. I can't figure out how to stylize it so it looks like someone who actually knows what they are doing did it.
Another of their pages is just a page full of links. My thought was, didn't "pages of useful links" go out of style 10 years ago or so? But that's what he wants, so any ideas how to sexify it up?

I usually go into the PHP WordPress template code to mess with the CSS styling. And yes, "pages of useful links" isn't really the way to go anymore. I'd nix the page completely, or if they deem it important, have them do some descriptions for those links.

So I just installed the Page Builder plugin, and that seems to make things a bit easier to manage. Still, I think this is a recipe for disaster

Re: Looking for some basic Wordpress/web design advice
Quick question that I couldn't find an easy answer for ... Can I change the theme to the default theme, debug a defective plugin, and then change the theme back to my original without losing any config/data?
I'm using a calendar plugin that isn't working quite right with my theme. All the plugin support will say is "use the default theme, and turn off all plugins, then turn them on 1 by 1 to see what is causing the issue".

Without activating a new theme you can see it how it would be looking for your site via preview. I don't think new themes become a reason of data loss.
Secondly, I don't understand what do you mean by useful use of link? Do you want to want to use links or what? Better to share your website URL here so we can give you better designing ideas.
