Windows 8.1 Homegroup problem

I got a new 8.1 desktop PC and set it up yesterday. It replaced another desktop PC that had created my current homegroup. This homegroup is still there when I look, but I am unable to join it. When I enter the password (confirmed to be correct by displaying it on another PC on the network) it just times out.

I'm looking for any solution to this problem: creating a new homegroup (does not seem to be straightforward at all); changing the password; or just doing whatever will allow this new PC to join it.

If I were you, I'd ask me to make sure I was really typing the homegroup password correctly. Yup, I'm sure. No caps lock problem or anything like that.

Re: Windows 8.1 Homegroup problem

OK, it took some brainstorming, but I figured it out.

1. On the older PC, I left the original homegroup.
2. Then Windows told me I could create one on the old PC. Same deal on the new PC -- I was now able to create a homegroup. I'm not sure it would have mattered but I created a homegroup from the new PC and joined it on the old one.
