Will you be getting iWatch?

http://mashable.com/2014/06/21/iwatch-nba-stars/

Assuming rumors true and it's finally coming, getting one?

If it has the health app functions and monitoring, I would. Most likely.

But I hope it has some stand alone features, not just always tied to phone.

No. Waste of fucking money. Folks will be made to believe they can't function without one though.

I probably, but my big wish is water proof! I want to swim with it and have it track that. Doubt it will have that capability though.

Re: Will you be getting iWatch?

No I wouldn't. I haven't wore a watch since college 10 years ago. MAYBE if it was like the iPod shuffle where you could just clip it on your shirt.

But iwatch and health apps could be good for the old people. I think the emergency buzzer necklace is a great product for them and the iwatch could be a more advanced version of that.

Re: Will you be getting iWatch?

No poll? Not a chance for me; I've been a fan of fitness bands, but full blown smart watches haven't really impressed me in both form and function. As much as I imagine Apple will blow away competitors in design, I don't need instant access on my wrist to go to an iDevice.

Who knows though, technology is fickle and you never know where a killer device can show up. It could blow me away.

I remember when it was "finally coming" two years ago. :lol; We'll see.

I think a lot of current fitness apps aren't just for "old people". Unless the old people you know are doing a lot of running, weight lifting and calorie tracking.

This has the potential to add to that. Is it required? Of course not. Bu neither is a smart phone.

The hard part for me is I do wear watches. I have a couple everyday ones and couple dress ones. I rotate as appropriate.

Re: Will you be getting iWatch?

How can we possibly speculate on buying a totally new, unreleased product? It could be a fitness/health band without a screen, it could be something that looks/feels like a regular analog watch but sends health/ fitness info to your phone via Bluetooth. Or a it could be what we now picture as a smart watch but with radically different UI, screen tech etc. Or it could be all one giant head-fake.

Let's at elast speculate on what it is going to be, first.

I love my pebble but I'll probably try the moto360. It's got a much more preferable look and screen for me.

Re: Will you be getting iWatch?

If/when it comes, I'd only choosier it if doesn't require another iDevice. I want something that's format agnostic.

So no.

Re: Will you be getting iWatch?

Hasn't the buzz for this sort of died down? It doesn't seem like the Galaxy Gear really took off.

Any of the speculation for the Fall seems only centered on the iPhone 6 and the iPhone Air.

Did someone actually expect the Galaxy Gear to take off? Seriously?

Even if not copying Apple, Samsung needs to copy from somewhere, see the Blackjack for instance: .
But for a smart watch they didn't even have Blackberry to copy from. The Pebble? Just not enough.

No. No I will not.

I loved my Blackjack, back in the day (2007). That was a great little phone. Very zesty.

A big No.

But I'm sure when Apple releases it, the Apple fanboys will all of a sudden decide they need one and will claim it to be the greatest thing ever invented.

I will consider it.

I almost bought a Pebble a couple of months ago. I decided to wait and check the Iwatch.

It's not hatred, it's pity.

No, my phone is enough. I think the Google Glass and similar products will be better as wearable tech. I don't see what a watch with a tiny screen offers me, but we'll see I guess. I'm kind of fatigued by consumer tech in general right now, so it's hard to get excited about this stuff.

I think it is still too early to tell one way or the other. Even reviews I've read of the first Android Wear watches are cautiously optimistic. They may not be there yet, but they have a lot of potential.

Having Apple and Google both in this space can only lead to some nice innovation and useful features over time.

Will I buy a smartwatch this year? Probably not. But when they reach their second or third generations, who knows?

Re: Will you be getting iWatch?

I donated to a Kickstarter for a different smartwatch (not the Pebble, the one I donated to is called Agent), so I doubt I will get the iWatch in its first iteration. If it's just a fitness tracker with iOS built in, I would have no interest anyway. Also it sounds like the battery life on the first Android watches is not great, with just one day of charge in them. That will have to be improved before I get one. The Agent watch is promising 7 days of battery life with Bluetooth connected, 30 days if you're using it unconnected (as just a watch, I guess).

Most people didn't see the point of a smartphone at first either.

I didn't see the point of the iPod (I had tried a couple of cassette "Walkmen" in the day and didn't end up using them at all). I got the iPod 2nd gen as a gift -- and changed my mind in a hurry.

The iPhone I saw the point of the moment it was demoed 6 months before release, and got soon after it went on sale. (I thought the Blackberrys and WinMo devices that some people at work had pre-iPhone were a joke, and I think the marketplace agreed in the long term)

The Smartwatch -- I see the point of a health/fitness monitor bracelet hooked up over Bluetooth LE to your smartphone. I don't see the point of a Pebble Or Samsung Gear type watch. We'll see what I think once (if) Apple demos their iWatch.

What utility will an Iwatch offer that a smartphone doesn't?
