Google Reader alternative (Feedly?)

Anyone have thoughts about Feedly, or is it feedly, as a replacement for Google Reader? I'm trying it out Windows laptop (with a Chrome extension) and my Android tablet (app). Seems okay on the laptop, a little more learning curve needed on the tablet. It's supposed to offer seamless transition after Reader shuts down. Right now it just reads my Google Reader feeds.

Anything special need to be aware with feedly before I spend any more time with it, or any other RSS reader?

I can't get it to permanently remain in Titles view. I like the the spare text look. By chance, I tried Flipbook last month but don't care much for it when I want mass text consumption, e.g., Slickdeals, Fatwallet. I don't care about Twitter, Facebook, Google+.

I was going to try FeedDemon but read that it, too, was shuttering since it relies on Reader for its underpinning.

First igoogle, now reader, sigh...

Re: Google Reader alternative (Feedly?)

I have also been trying out feedly. It is the only one I found so far that says it will be around after Reader shuts down and that offers web and tablet options, which is key for me. Would be interested if anyone finds another that offers both a web (browser based) and tablet(app) solution.

Re: Google Reader alternative (Feedly?)

Google's decision has shaken things up so I'm going to wait and check them out in a few months when things settle down. Several of the existing alternatives are expanding to lure former users and others are sure to pop up. Digg announced that a planned reader project has been fast tracked to be out in time.

Obviously it's not, or people wouldn't be looking for alternatives to Google Reader.

I've been using Feedly for a couple weeks now. I like it. For podcasts, I've been using RSSRadio.

Right now Feedly looks that the best option to me. I can set it up to look the most like the way I use Google read, headliners only, no graphics, etc.

We should see more options before July 1 I think.

Re: Google Reader alternative (Feedly?)

I switched to Feedly the other day when they announced Reader shutting down. I deleted Reader on my Droid and I've really been trying to use Feedly on my PC as much as I can. I'm not 100% sold on Feedly but I guess I just have to adjust.

I signed the petition to keep Reader around knowing that it won't do shit. I just don't get why Reader is going away. Google has tons of money and I'm not even asking for improvements or changes to Reader. Just keep it like it is now and I'd be happy.

Re: Google Reader alternative (Feedly?)

Is it possible to search feed sources on the app version? As far as I can see, it only searches external sources like the web, news, youtube but not my actual rss subscriptions. It allows it on the PC but I don't see it on my tablet.

I have the same question. Also, can the feedly iOS app be used offline?

I wouldn't think so. In my case, right now, Feedly is just reading my Google Reader account. I don't have a unique Feedly account yet. To use it offline, it would have to download an awful lot of data if you have a lot of subscriptions.

Can't recall but I don't think you can do it with Flipbook either. [edit] Oh, I guess you can.

Re: Google Reader alternative (Feedly?)

I hear what you are saying, but RE; off-line use, I am only looking for functionality such as in Reeder where you can dl the info specified by the feed (usually a snippet of the article, etc.); read that offline and star (or mark) to read the full article later.

Re: Google Reader alternative (Feedly?)

Apparently feedly removed the search function and reserved it for the Pro, i.e., paid version!

https://twitter.com/feedly/status/318762666724323329

It looks like a Feedly Pro service is in the works, with support for premium features including offline reading, real-time unread counts, and… article search. It looks like my must-have feature will be coming back, but it won’t necessarily be free.

Next...going to try The Old Reader
