How in the hell?!! (File and Folder issue)

I recently had some files recovered from an old drive. It was mostly MP3s. I spent hours renaming files and organizing folders. I had it perfect so I shut my computer off for the night. The next day I boot up my laptop and EACH and EVERY alteration I made was gone and the file system was back being a complete mess again. How in the hell does this even happen?

I use the libraries feature in Windows a great deal but I am going to copy my files to another folder and alter the folder that the My Music library includes. When I map this new folder to the My Music library I am going to alter a few folders and see if somehow this seemingly meaningless change makes a difference. If anyone else has some input I welcome it.

Were the folders/files set to "read only"?

They were. I swear I've made minor adjustments to these folders in the past and not had them revert to their previous state. Guess I could be wrong. I'll uncheck that box and try changing a few folders. Thanks.

Re: How in the hell?!! (File and Folder issue)

When I select all the folders I am having issues with and make them read only it seems like it is applying the change to all the folders. Then when I once again select all and click properties the read only box is checked again. Upon researching that this happens a ton.

The weirder thing is that the folders I've changed so far seem to be staying corrected.

*UPDATE*
Well.....the files stayed as I wanted them for about a day. I came home tonight, booted up the laptop and everything is once again a mess. I just don't get it.

The only thing I can guess is that it might be a permissions issue, since the "owner" of the files may be different from the owner on the old drive. Try taking ownership of the files and then try renaming/moving them.
