Re: The Apple Thread

So it's been some years now. When do you think we'll see something from post-Jobs Apple which is actually an original idea? So far, all we've seen is rehashes and products to copy other successful items. iPad Pro, Watch, the new home speaker they just announced...etc. Do you think we'll ever see the likes of the iPhone in 2007 from Apple again?

Short answer is absolutely not.

And I was unimpressed with the Home Pod they revealed yesterday at the Apple WWDC. I dunno, I guess I'll see what it really offers, when it comes out at the end of the year. Anyone excited by this?

https://www.apple.com/homepod/

I believe this is to scale as well.

Re: The Apple Thread

I haven't read about it yet but isn't just a Echo/Home copy with Siri for Apple users?

It is much more of a Sonos competitor than Echo: the HomePod has vastly better sound quality. https://www.macrumors.com/2017/06/06...t-impressions/

Re: The Apple Thread

Being limited to Apple Music only right now would kill any interest in the HomePod that I might have, even with the higher quality speaker. I'm sure people all in on Apple will eat it up though.

Re: The Apple Thread

I was really looking forward to something along the lines of the Home Pod. Between the price and the release in December, though, I'm considering the Echo instead. I was really hoping it would be $200 and available immediately.

Why not the Dot? I think Dot + Bluetooth speaker would be better than Echo.

Re: The Apple Thread

That would work. For some reason I thought I read that you had to have an Echo for the Dots to connect to. That doesn't seem to be the case, though.

Re: The Apple Thread

I have a family subscription to Apple Music so the HomePod would be great for me but it cost way too much. I got the Echo for $100 when it first came out. I'd much rather just have Apple Music integration as an option for the Echo

Re: The Apple Thread

Anyone notice the Apple website changes for music?
https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/25/id1051394208

It now has song previews but now doens't show price. And I can't figure out how to get to iTunes from the webpage. There used to be a "view in iTUnes" on the right of the songs.

Re: The Apple Thread

Click on the "Also Available in iTunes" link to the top right of the tracks. You'll then get a View in iTunes button to the top left of the Tracks.

Re: The Apple Thread

Yeah, it looks like they changed it to push Apple Music, making that the default view option.

For what? This is a general Apple thread, covering all their hardware/software/services.

Apple Music has a family plan for $14.99/month that covers 6 people:
https://www.apple.com/apple-music/membership/

BTW, Apple just added a new annual option for the individual plan for $99/yr, saving $20 over the $10/month individual plan. No such annual option for the family plan, yet:

So I finally got them a few days ago: they exceed all my expectations. Maybe I am being delusional bur they sound way better than their wired version for listening to podcasts, phone calls, etc.

They connect to various devices (iPhone, iPad, Macs) way quicker and more reliably than generic bluetooth (my Bose headphones).

My one regret is that I didn't order them immediately.

Re: The Apple Thread

forum.dvdtalk.com does not work on iPad (Safari, latest iOS) using the normal Mac/PC format, but in phone mode. It used to be (which was bad enough) than you could scroll to the bottom of the screen and tap the "use full screen" (?) to revert to the normal format, but now even that doesn't work.

Any idea how to fix this? Thanks!

I'm viewing the site on an iPad (10.3,2) in "desktop" mode and it works perfectly.

When you come to the forum.dvdtalk.com page and its optimized for mobile devices there should be a desktop option somewhere on the screen.

It just worked, tapping "Use Full Site". I got here going through the email l'front your post. Wasn't working when I was coming in via bookmark. Strange - I'll check again in, the future.

On Android, but I notice sometimes on this site that "Use Full Site" button doesn't work, but if I click into a different area of the forum, it becomes responsive again.

It might have been a site glitch.

The other day, a couple of days before your initial post, the dvdtalk forum suddenly switched over to the mobile version while I was reading it. At some point, all of the tabs I opened for threads were mobile.

The next time I went to the forum I switched it back to full site and it's worked as it should since then.

Re: The Apple Thread

Managed to drop my iPhone 6 on the 4th and shattered the screen. Made an appointment at the Apple store yesterday. One hour later I had a brand new screen on my phone. I'll miss the Apple service when I switch to Android, but the lack of a headphone jack on the new iPhones is a deal breaker for me. I'll keep my 6 until it's no longer supported - hopefully I have a year or two before that happens.

Re: The Apple Thread

The iPhone 6 will likely continue to be supported through iOS 12, which means support will continue until the release of iOS 13 in fall 2019.
