Enhancing Weak Wifi Signal

My wifi router is in the opposite corner of the house in a two-story home and I get a very poor signal where I am. What are the hardware options for receiving a better signal? I tried searching online, but have no idea what I should do or get.

You probably want to get a wifi repeater, extender or booster. Check Amazon for those terms and you'll find a lot of products.

I did it by daisychaining two Linksys routers. Here's a post from last year with the details:

You might also want to consider using a Powerline system. I've got one and use it to daisy chain a 2nd router in a different part of my house to my primary router over the house's a/c wiring. You don't have to use a 2nd router as I did, you can plug your internet appliance directly into the receiver, which has 4 ethernet ports.

The only catches are (a) both the sender and receiver have to be on the same circuit - not a problem for most homes but for larger ones like mine where there are two different circuits it can be; and (b) you can't use any surge protection between the sender or receiver and their respective wall plugs.

A wireless repeater is just going to extend a weak signal. Try the powerline adapters.

Kids are saying that a 802.11ac router is the solution to all my range problems and it will make everything super fast everywhere in the home. Anyone try it yet and notice a difference?

Can your router be moved to a more central location? Also some routers operate better than others, so maybe a different router may give better signal.

Ran across this the other day. No idea how well it works.

There's only one 802.11ac router that just came out, and there are no clients yet, so, um, no.
