I don't know much about video cards but I was wondering if anybody out there had any recomendations. I guess my price range is somewhere between $100-200. Will be used for gaming and word processing. I am putting together a computer and I have pretty much ewverything else picked out.

Greetings, Cannon! Nice name, that happens to be my last name! Anyways, this thread will probably get moved to PC hardware, but.... With a little more information, we might be able to help a little better. For instance, what is your budget, your current system setup and what it is you'd be doing with the card (gaming, etc)? Later

I have been putting together a computer myself, and also researching video cards. Here the run down I got:

Geforce cards: Best 3D bad 2D
Ati radeon cards: Good 3d Good 2d
Matrox: Best 2d bad 3d

If you are a gamer you probably want to get a geforce be sure to shop around there are many different ones check nvidia's site first www.nvidia.com. If you are like me and looking to ouptut to tv and play games go with the radeon 64mb ddr or the all in wonder radeon 32mb ddr. Check the ati website for the rundown www.ati.com. I dont know too much about matrox but I am sure bobafett will chime in here.

For reveiws:

www.tomshardware.com
www.sharkyextreme.com

Hope this helps.

I partially agree with TJ22:

Matrox: Best 2D by far, old slow 3D (still is the first card to support EBM and FSAA in 3D games) Good tech support, great drivers.

nVidia: Best 3D (speed and image quality). Poor 2D. Tech support not the easiest (nVidia makes video card chips!). Awesome drivers (new releases about "every week" )

ATI: OK 2D, OK 3D. Ugly tech support, bad driver support if it is not their lastest card.

Bottom line IMO:
Best 2D: Matrox
Best 3D: nVidia
Best ratio 2D/3D: ATI

This is the first time I've seen a recommendation go full circle.

Where do you think TJ22 got his info? Here maybe?

Oh and yeah ATI is the best "all-around" card IMO.

Matrox: best 2D by far, slow old 3D (I won't say bad because they were the first to introduce EBM and FSAA!)

nVidia: poor 2D, best 3D

ATI: OK 2D, OK 3D
[Edit: I wrote Matrox the first time ]
