The one and only ANDROID thread....

Re: The one and only ANDROID thread....
Thanks. If battery life is that good, I probably will switch to the Note 5. The brightness issues don't bother me a lot, since I have my LG G3 set darker than I want anyway (to save battery).

Regarding the Note5 pen issue----I haven't done it but after looking at the disassembled pics--I don't see why inserting a drinking straw over the pen wouldn't release the catch an cause it to just fall out naturally.

Battery life varies greatly depending on what I am doing. But 5-7 hours SOT is pretty typical for me in a normal day. Sitting for one hour straight probably drains about 10-12% an hour on light tasks. Idle drain is 1-2% an hour depending on what I am doing.

Thanks for the pros/cons. I like, often NEED extended storage, which makes the G4 so attractive. But I've been reading a lot about the G4's battery performance (higher capacity but lower efficiency, slow charging, etc.) Of course a spare takes care of that... if I happen to have one on me. I always have a charging device or external power supply.
I was looking at the S6 Active as something reliable for running/swimming/workouts, but it only goes up to 32 GB storage? Imma jump out the window!

I think the risk is that the pen detector is damaged permanently even if you were able to release the pen.

Yeah, the Note is king with battery life.

Re: The one and only ANDROID thread....
I took the plunge and swapped my LG G3 for a Samsung Note 5. So far very pleased with the sharpness of the display and the fast charging.
Is there a case that you would recommend? I am thinking about a Spigen Neo Hybrid Crystal case with clear back, but my main concerns are that it interferes with wireless charging, and that it picks up fingerprints easily. If that's the case, then I would keep the phone naked.

Congratulations on the note 5!
The spigen would be fine for wireless charging but crystal clear TPU is usually a fingerprint magnet, though I don't have that case personally. Most thinner cases should work fine for wireless charging
I have a tech21 case. It is a bit more than the spigen but I get 25% discount from Verizon. I believe other carriers sell tech21 cases too. It is oos online but I got it in store.

Re: The one and only ANDROID thread....
$40 is too much for me to pay for a phone case, so I went with a Spigen carbon case for $17.
I remember that you were an early adopter of the Samsung Note. After spending a lot of time with it today, I can see why - the screen is super sharp and big, battery life is great, and the stylus is very useful. There is no other phone quite like it. I'm really glad I upgraded.

Wife and I were playing with the 'selfie' features on the Note5 -- wow... This camera is REALLY nice and perfectly adjusted for portrait shots.

I really like the Ballistic Urbanite case (what I was using on my note 4) but it isn't available for the note 5.
If you need large screen with a stylus then the note 5 is really the only choice so far.

I was looking for Caseology also, but they seem to be behind on the Note 5 - cases not available until late September or October.

Re: The one and only ANDROID thread....
OK this has been bugging me: I seem to recall a youtube showing the Note 5 selfie features and how there was a way to use a voice command to take the picture -- WITHOUT the timer. Everything I've tried starts a 3 second timer, nothing instant?

In the Camera Setting menu, you can turn on the Voice Control feature, with which the camera takes a picture when you say "Cheese" or "Smile" or "Shoot". I don't know how long the lag time is, but it's not long.

Re: The one and only ANDROID thread....
yeah I have the voice working. The lag isn't good when you're trying to capture with a toddler. Manually tapping works, but I thought there was a way to turn off the lag.

You can do burst shots by holding down the button. Unfortunately you can only do bursts of 30 pictures
