I love my iPad, so I am intrigued about getting and iPHone 6 but I don't know.
S3 to s4 and s4 to s5 are incremental upgrades. But there are most definitely improvements. I don't have the s5 but I have the note 3 and it is certainly faster than my s3. Full HD screen, better battery, ir blaster, fingerprint scanner, water resistance, 4k recording, better camera

If you went from S3 to S5 it would feel like a big upgrade. I'd wait till Apple at least announces the iPhone 6 so you can see which one you think you'd like better.

Google bought the maker of Word Lens, and Word Lens is now free for at least a limited time. Amazing program -- feels like the future.

Re: The one and only ANDROID thread....

Can anyone recommend an app to backup app data? I was using Helium but it appears to be crap now. I can backup the data, but can't restore it on another device. I'm getting a new phone again tomorrow and don't want to lose my progress in all the games I play lol

And the app can't be for rooted phones.

Re: The one and only ANDROID thread....

I can't take anymore of 4.4.2 on the Note 3. The battery issue persists even after a factory reset. This is completely unacceptable. Do I really have to root and install a custom just to get the performance I first had when I bought the phone? The battery life has been halved, and I'm not exaggerating. Google fucked up with this update, and now Samsung continues to do nothing. When will this be fixed?

Which carrier do you have?

On another note, Verizon has $100 off all contract smartphones $199 or higher. So the s5 and m8 are $100

I'm glad I didn't jump the gun and get the S5. The LG G3 looks fantastic. Anyone else plan on getting this?

I had the G2 and found it to be a great phone. Based on what I've read about the G3, and the comparisons they've made to the G2, I'd get the G3 in a heartbeat if I hadn't gotten the HTC One just 2 months ago. Hopefully LG markets it better than HTC does their flagship; I just want to see something more deserving unseat the Galaxy from the top spot.

Re: The one and only ANDROID thread....

I currently have the S3 on Sprint and can upgrade to a new phone starting Sunday. Does anyone have a better deal for the S5 than Best Buy's Trade your phone in for a $100 GC that is applied to the S5, making the S5 $99.99 plus tax?

I would rather give my old phone to someone else who could use it than trading it in.

Well, it's an at least $100 gift card, but looking up the trade-in value for a perfect S3 is $79 on bestbuy.com. Gazelle will only give $59 for one.

Edit: You can get a $50 gift card without trade-in by buying the S5 online. Then you could trade-in your S3 for the $79, and be up $29 (assuming they give you $79 for the S3):

I bought a Verizon Moto g for $70 no contract and I gotta say, I am surprised at how well it runs. It doesn't have top end specs, but runs fairly smooth

It's a 1.2ghz a7 quad with a gig of ram, it would have no reason not to run well.

Absolutely, the software is really well, less lag than my note 3.

Also Amazon has it for $50 now.

Spoke too soon. My moto g did a random shutdown - 91% to 0% in a minute. Charged from 8% to 100% in a minute. Supposedly fixed with 4.4.3 so we shall see.

Re: The one and only ANDROID thread....

My Galaxy S3 just got KitKat (4.4.2) this morning

It's a pleasant surprise to see it's still getting updates I suppose. Some of the minor changes are still really nice to have -- even if it's simple things, like full screen controls for Spotify on the lock screen.

I have a gs3 and now 4.4.2 which supposedly has immersive mode. I see no button or any way to activate it whatever it is.

It's basically a "full screen" mode that gets rid of the notification bar and any menu features/buttons on the screen. The app itself has to have been programmed to take advantage of this new mode. If an app hasn't been updated to feature an immersive mode, there's third-party options to "force" an app into the mode:

Yes but how do you activate the mode when in and app that has it?

It looks like by tapping on the content you want to be immersed in. So for example, in Google Play Books, you'd tap on the area of the screen displaying the book.

See the 2 min, 45s mark on this video:
http://youtu.be/YayRfsAuIxg?t=2m45s

You can see it in action for Google Play Books here:

Re: The one and only ANDROID thread....

Ok. Apparently on my gs3 in Google books this is activated simply by tapp g the screen while reading a book.
