Microsoft Outlook Rules and Alerts

I have some rules setup that move certain e-mails into certain folders.

The rules somehow got messed up and only run when Outlook is running. This is a problem because I don't want all these e-mails to show up on my Treo.

I don't have the 'On this machine only' box checked, so I'm not sure why it's only running when Outlook is running.

Some rules run within Outlook, some run within Exchange.

If the rules run within Outlook, Outlook will have to be running in order to process them.

Is there a way to run it within Exchange?

Depends on how the rule is setup.

I suggest deleting the rule(s) and recreating them making certain you are forwarding them to an actual folder within your inbox and not some offline personal folder that the exchange server doesn't have access too unless your outlook client is running.

Does it move it to a non-exchange folder? Ie a local PST file / archive? Exchange cant see those.

I think some rules, probably depending on the provided parameters or tasks, can only run from Outlook. For instance, if you want particular emails marked as read, that may have to happen from within Outlook.

When you look at the rules within Outlook it will say (client-only) by the name of the rules that have to run within Outlook. You could try adjusting them so they can run on Exchange.
