issues with router when using P2P software

When i use limewire, or bitorrent clients, my wireless router seems to reset itself. after a few resets, sometimes it stabilizes and does not reset anymore.
Anyone seen this?
Is it because I have a crappy router?
(I'm using a verizon wirelss router/modem that i got for free when subscribing to verizon)

the bandwith is pretty small. usually about 20-50 kbs (according to the P2P client).
what do you mean by "hot"? you mean the temperature on the router?
Does using a higher bandwith cause your router to get hot?
