MCE IR Receiver - Possible to use with other remotes?

Ok, I used to use a generic serial IR receiver coupled with Girder and used my URC-8910 All in One Remote. It worked awesome until I upgraded my HTPC and for whatever reason Girder crashes upon launch..

So I went and got an MCE Remote and MCE IR receiver. I did this because I thought I could just use the IR receiver like a UIRT but cheaper.. I've come to find out that I'm not sure it's possible.

Is it possible to use ANY remote control with the MCE IR Receiver. Question 2.. Can I use Girder with it as well.

Please help.. VERY Frustrated!!!

Thanks!

if it's ir, you can use any learning remote. i have the mce also that i'm using with beyondtv/media and it works great. i purchased a harmony remote to control the entire htpc and the tv. hell, it even controls my window a/c unit.

i'm not sure if i'm understanding the complexities of your issues, but it a learning remote (or programmable remote) works just fine with the ir receiver.

I got it working for what I wanted to do.. See, I have a learning remote but I didn't want to go through and teach each MCE remote button to it. What I wanted was for the receiver to receive codes, and for me to assign those codes via Girder what I want them to do..

The problem I was having and the reason I thought something wasn't working is because the device I was using (a DVD Player's codes) Girder wasn't picking them up... I changed it to a random TV code and it received all those. Thanks!
