Sound Forge 8 Echoing Issue

Sound Forge 8 Echoing Issue

I am having an issue with my Sound Forge 8. Whenever I try and record something with the Monitor box checked, there is a TERRIBLE echo. Actually, I don't even have to be recording, even if the recording window is open, it echos. I don't know why this has started up. I don't think I did anything to it that could be causing this. Does anyone have anything I can try to get rid of this echo?

just a thought - do you have a mic active when you're doing this?

That would make sense, but I don't have a mic attached to my computer. Also, I usually wear headphones when I am recording. Here is a sample of the recording. The first few seconds are without monitoring turned on, after that is with monitoring. If you notice, once I enable monitoring, it seems like in addition to echoing, the volume slowly increases.
