Good free POP3 email?

Today I checked my hotpop.com email and got an error, so I went to their site and it was a generic page saying their account had expired (always a good sign ). I guess I probably should have seen this coming since I've had problems with them in the past and their tech support is literally non-existant.

Anyway, now I'm going to have to find another free email account with pop3 and smtp support. Any suggestions?

I read somewhere that Gmail sometimes drops messages. Is that true?

Also, how can I get invited to sign up?

You can also sign up for gmail with any cell phone number. Anyway, gmail's probably the best e-mail service on the web regardless of POP.

Yep, GMail is good. Windows Live Mail is looking damn good though I'm not sure if the free version offers POP3.
