Help!

I have a problem with Windows XP.

The following logo is shown on my destop:

Spyware Infection

Your system is infected with spyware.......

I can't get rid of it.

It blocks anything I try to do with my desktop - icons, changes in wallpaper, etc.

What do I do?

Your assistance would be appreciated.

download Microsoft anti-spyware and try to install it

if you can't, PM me and I'll give you my email and try to send you some tools to help you. Probably a simple registry change to solve it.

Welcome to SPYSHERRIFF! I got this the other day. It's a bitch and I wound up wiping my PC.

Here's a removal instruction list from Major Geeks:
http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=65945

This did remove Spy Sherrif, but my browser was acting strangely still after that and I wound up downloading another trojan without doing anything other than going to yahoo. It drops some really nasty stuff on your PC.

Also note Microsoft's concerns over a hole in Windows Picture and Fax viewer, which is where I got the bug from.

PS - MS Antispyware will not fix this problem.

Generally, it's difficult to remove spywares without knowing the exact name. There have been a wave of spywares in the past few weeks that penetrate the flaw in Windows which was (supposed to be) fixed with the December 13 Windows Update. I don't know which one you have, but try this:

http://www.infopackets.com/channels/...structions.htm

It's a page that shows you how to remove SpyAxe (one of the more nasty spywares), but that app (SmitRemfix) also removes many of other similar spywares.

That link I gave you to the Geek site has all free stuff in there. Hijackthis is great for identifying what's screwing up your PC.
