Help Removing Compaq Start Splash?

I recently purchased a new laptop, and exery time I boot I get:

1) COMPAQ centered, with <F10> for set-up and <F2> for something else.
2) Windows XP Pro w/ the little scroll bar
3) 'HP' wallpaper. It is the first wallpaper that the PC came set to, but I can't get rid of it no matter what my back ground is
4) Welcome

Is there a way to remove the Compaq and remove the "HP' screens from coming up every time I boot?

Probably would that a BIOS hack, not really worth the risk if you ask me. My Dell has the splash screen and so does my Toshiba, but it's only for a couple seconds. Maybe you need to turn on the "quick boot" option.

As for the wallpaper, that could be the login wallpaper. There's a registry key that you can use to change it. Google for that. Or you might have to change your windows wallpaper to a bitmap.

Yeah, the Compaq thing is not as annoying as the HP thing. I tried changing the wall paper to nothing and rebooting and that didn't work. I will google and try to find something.

XP, stores the wallpaper at C:\WINDOWS\Web\Wallpaper

located and delete (or move) out of that folder.

Look in the registry at the following location:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\ActiveDesktop.
and
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\ActiveDesktop

Look for the value:
NoChangingWallPaper
1 prevents changing wallpaper, 0 allows changes

The wallpaper at start-up is not in the folder, and ActiveDesktop is not an option in either of those registry locations. Thanks for the help though...

This is the registry key I was thinking of.

To Add A Windows XP Logon Wallpaper...

1) Navigate to:

HKEY USERS\ .DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop

2) Double click the wallpaper value, and type in the full path of your image and the filename.

3) To tile the image set "TileWallPaper" to 1

4) To Stretch the wallpaper set "WallPaperStyle" to 2

5) Close the registry editor and the changes will take place when you Log off.
